The Renogy BT-1 is a great addition to any compatible Renogy solar charge controllers. Powered by its RJ12 communication port, the BT-1 provides wireless monitoring of system data through the Renogy DC Home smart phone App. And allows users to change parameters when using the Renogy DC Home App.

The bluetooth unit was easy to install and connect. I had some misgivings about the unit and the app after reading several reviews. Those misgivings were unfounded. I cannot attest to the claimed range of 82 feet as my charge controller is only 60 feet away from my house and phone. The unit easily connects at 60 feet and the app has all of the information that I desire. Contrary to several reviews of the app, I do NOT have to pair the device each time as those users claim. Overall, I am very satisfied with both the Renogy controller that I purchased and this bluetooth unit.

Look; we use Renogy’s panels and chargers on our farm because they hold up to chicken poop and pressure washing. This was totally quality of life/ time saving splurge I added to our new chicken trailer build at the last minute. 100% WORTH IT. It has a surprisingly long range so nobody has to slog all the way up the hill in the rain to double check that all the important pumps and fans are getting juice. I can also look at the panel output from the drivers seat when we move things. Super happy with it.

This Renogy Bluetooth is a good device. Quickly connected my phone app to my 30 amp Renogy Wanderer controller. As usual with Renogy, it worked right out of the box. I would recommend this for Renogy compatible controllers.

This is basically a required item if you're going to use a Renogy Wanderer charger. The charger provides no information other than a few flashing lights so if you want any technical information on solar charging Ah or easily confirm that your array is operating near it's designed capacity then you need this Bluetooth module. Unfortunately, you need one of these modules for each component in the system. So, if you have two solar chargers then you will need a BT module for each which is the biggest negative to the system. My review is based on this piece of hardware. The app that supports it is pretty lousy and hopefully Renogy overhauls it soon. Likewise, the methodology Renogy used for connecting and monitoring multiple components is not the best in my opinion.I recently installed two 200W Renogy flexible solar panels on a camper and used a Wanderer controller to charge the battery. Connecting to this BT module is as simple as an old landline telephone. The RJ12 cable plugs into the BT module and the other end plugs into the controller. The BT module came with an adhesive backing which I used to secure the module to the wall in a corner to keep it out of the way. You can also put screws through the slots on both sides. After a 3000+ mile trip it is still secured to the wall using the adhesive. The app can hang or do weird things but if you close the app and reopen it, it usually connects to the BT module within a few seconds. This module will send a strong enough signal that I could stay connected about 50ft away. I could check the solar charger from the passenger seat while we were driving down the road which is roughly 30ft.

This adapter complements the Renergy Wanderer 30 Li charge controller I purchased. I recommend purchasing the adapter for this charge controller due to there being no display, just some flashing LEDs for status. The adapter seems to work well. The lead is very long. I assume is is so it can be mounted a considerable distance away from the controller if the controller was mounted in an electrical cabinet. In my situation the charge controller is mounted directly on my folding solar panels so there was no need for such a long lead. The app is OK but not great. On Android as soon as the app loses focus it needs to be reconnected. To do this the app must be closed and reopened.I found the BT range on the adapter is fairly standard for BT: about 5m, maybe a little further.

Quick summary: this Bluetooth adapter is simple to install, configure, and use. The information it provides to a phone is very useful and much more convenient than going and looking at the charge controller.More detailed review: I have a Renogy Wanderer 10A charge controller, 50 watt panel, and a LiFePo4 battery to provide 12V power for lighting and a small fan in my shed. I wanted to be able to check on the system and verify it was working correctly without needing to go out in the shed and directly look at the controller, so I purchased this Bluetooth adapter.Connection is simple: it uses a modular connector identical to those used in landline telephones, so it’s literally plug and play.Pairing with Bluetooth on a 2020 iPhone SE is quick and easy, as is using the app. It provides all the real-time status in a convenient and useful layout. The range is enough to go about 30 feet through the shed and house walls. I did test it up to 100 feet away with no obstructions, but it was not able to communicate with my phone at that range. I suspect the range estimates are idealized and somewhat overstated.Useful feature: if the controller’s output is set to manually switch the load on and off when the Enter button is pressed, you can remotely switch the load terminals using the app.The only downsides seem to be related to my charge controller, not the Bluetooth adapter. The controller is extremely basic and doesn’t do any internal data logging or storage at all beyond saving the settings. Thus, the only information it outputs is just the real time status, which the Bluetooth adapter faithfully transmits. The app is capable of many features that this particular controller is not, such as renaming the controller and logging historical data about power generation, consumption, battery state and voltage, etc. I presume more advanced Renogy controllers would be capable of logging and sending that data, though I wish the app would hide the fields and options that the controller doesn’t support.Bottom line: if you have a Renogy controller and want to monitor it without needing to directly look at its display, this Bluetooth adapter is the way to go. In my case, the controller cost less than the Bluetooth adapter, but getting the adapter was definitely the right choice.

The BT app is fairly clumsy to use, having to enter the password every time you make any change but once you get the hang of it, it’s pretty ok since you rarely make changes, it’s mostly just used for monitoring. If you do want to change a battery parameter, you have to select the battery type as 'User', then make the change. The administrator password is 135790123 (unless you change it). The range isn’t all that great but the wire is about 18 feet long so you can mount it pretty far away.
