The remote that came with my winch didn’t have mounting brackets for the relay or the receiver. This made for an ugly installation. I picked this up to correct the mess from the original winch. This is a much cleaner installation. The remote works well and the installation is easy. Exactly what I was looking for!

This is installed on a flat bed specifically to pull a disabled vehicle up onto the platform. The distance is adequate for this application. It does not really look weather-proof, but this is housed inside a toolbox, so there is no exposure to the elements and thus of no concern to me. It was easy to install this to replace the existing solenoid; it took less than an hour. I added a switch so that the winch can be completely turned off out of concern for accidental remote activation. That being said, it’s pretty sweet to have the remote! In fact, there are two remotes included in case one is mislaid or lost.

This seems to work fine. Kind of a cool contactor relay that works with 12 VDC. I'm using it on a winch, where I need to be able to move around without dragging a cable with me. I made a 3-D CAD model of this and posted it on GrabCad (12VDC Remote Receiver) and the (12VDC Contactor).

Nice to have a complete system with remotes, receiver, and relay. However, I would strongly advise adding a switch to be able to turn this OFF when you do not intend to use it. I do wish they had included one with this system. Otherwise, a remote in your pocket or somewhere can easily be activated and have the motor attempt to run. Maybe no harm done, but I would rather disable the unit than find out the hard way. Personally, I would not rely on simply using the ACC on your ignition switch to the receiver (that is just me), but it would be better than not using anything at all. I prefer a dedicated switch for this. It is simply a more safe and direct approach. It is easy to install, but I am not using this outside. And I am not so sure I would. The receiver does not seem very water-proof and I would be afraid it could short out if subjected to an out door environment. If it was used for that, I would strongly advise taking measures to shield it from water.Like most units similar to this, there is no fuse. That is something that the manufacture will not provide because it should be used with a motor smaller than this units rating, and should be fused according to the current of that motor. The manufacture has no idea what you will use this for, so they will not likely provide that. So with this or any such device, be sure to properly fuse your wire from your battery. If the above concerns are observed, I would say this would work well for most any application within its voltage and current abilities. It has more than adequate wireless range and works well.I do like that the buttons actuate the relay in a "momentary" fashion instead of latching in either direction. Once you release a button, the motor stops. Some similar devices have a third button for "stop" and I would think that is the understood and desired action once a button has been released. I do like this much better than the latching type.In my opinion, this is a nice unit that works great. But you need to consider an added switch to disable it, an appropriate fuse to protect it, and additional shielding if used out doors.

Description reflects the device as a winch remote control. It's actually more of an actuator or hoist controller. Most winch remote controls have a remote that says 'In - Out' not 'Up - Down' "Not a big deal."However, the receiver is far from being rugged or waterproof. I was going to install this on my ATV, but after opening the receiver housing, I realize that the unit would fail rather quickly. The circuit board of the receiver has no protection from mud and water whatsoever.I tested the unit on the bench and it does operate as described. I was able to obtain roughly 200ft of transmitter range. The receiver will require a power switch to be installed for safety as the remotes will activate the relay whenever the buttons are depressed. There is no 'on-off' switch on the remotes.
