About this item

  • Cabinet type: NEMA 3R
  • Must be installed outdoors near an in-use generator
  • Durable, raintight, and non-metallic power inlet box
  • Designed specifically for generators up to 12,500 maximum running watts

The Reliance Controls PBN50 50-Amp NEMA 3R CS6375 Power Inlet Box is a watertight electrical inlet box designed to be located outdoors where the generator is running in order to prevent dangerous carbon monoxide fumes from entering your house or other cherished space. This inlet box should be safely hardwired through an outside wall directly to the transfer switch or panel, eliminating the need for cords running through windows or doors. It was also designed to be wired directly to the transfer switch or panel by using one of the four included combination 1/2-inch and 3/4-inch knockouts (one on each side, bottom and back). The exclusive, patented make provides generous wiring space and facilitates rough-in. The face of the box is removable for easy placement and wiring and, finally, it was constructed of steel with rugged, anti-corrosive, powder-coated paint and has a spring-loaded inlet cap to prevent moisture front entering the front-mounted connector inlet when not in use. Since 1909, Reliance Controls Corporation has contributed more innovations that any other single manufacturer and has been awarded over 85 patents on manual transfer switches, time switches and accessories. Reliance Controls Corporation specializes in the manufacturing of a wide variety of electrical products. The primary product line consists of heavy duty time clocks and controls, generator accessories, transfer switches and transfer panels for portable generators. And after over a century of innovation, Reliance Controls Corporation has built an enviable reputation for high quality, superior engineering and exceptional customer service.

Chose this option because of the downward plug. I’m pleased with it. Test run and it works just fine.

This is a durable and well designed 50 amp generator inlet box. The box is composed of a plastic shell that's 4mm (.15 inches) thick. There are 3 major parts: The back/sides, the top/front, and the lower panel where the 50 amp connector is attached. All of these pieces come apart and go back together easily and make a solid, durable box.The best part is that the lower panel, where the 50 amp connector resides, slides out forward. This enables you to mount the box to a wall but slide out the connector/bottom panel so you can access the screws to insert and tighten the wires to the 50 amp plug. Working with 6 gauge wire is of course not easy, so the ability to remove the bottom panel to attach the wires gives you good flexibility. Inside the box is a good amount of room for a small service loop for your wire. The front/top panel attaches with two long screws that attach the panel the rear. These long scrws go through enclosed "tunnels" from the front to the back, so these screws are not exposed inside the box.The lower panel of the box, where the 50 amp inlet resides, has a spring-loaded cover that flaps shut when not in use. It has a foam seal to attempt to keep out mosture or bugs. The box has knockouts in different places to accomodate differnet mounting needs. The side/rear panel has 3 holes for mounting screws which is great because the strength of 6 gauge wire requires a strong mounting scheme to counteract. Be aware that this device has built-in stand offs so that it does not sit flush on the mounting surface (wall). These stand offs are needed because of the way to top/front lid attaches. The top part of the lid is like a roof and it covers the whole top and front of the box. This 'roof' has an overhang on the rear of the box, so the box needs to stand off the mounting surface 3/8" or so.The included direction sheet is well written. Other than glancing it over, the only part I referred back to several times was the explanation of which colored wires to go to the X, Y, W, and G teminals. The 50 amp connector is a CS6375 twist lock without a center pin. The ground terminal on this style of connector is on the side of the connector, so it 's not a pin that sticks out. One final note, the 50 amp CS6375 connector CAN be removed from the lower panel. It is held in by 3 phillips screws. However for a normal install you should not need to remove it, because you can instead just slide out the whole lower panel with the connector attached to it.This is a good product and I would buy it again. I like that there is plenty of space inside the box for the 6 gauge wires.

This is a great power inlet to use to back feed your home for backup power. I have it connected to a 50-amp breaker in the main breaker panel, and it works great! Easy to install, but be sure to leave a little room in the rear to be able to place the top back on when assembling.

After doing a lot of research, I decided on this inlet box. There were a few things I was looking for in a 50a inlet box.1. A good quality receptacle with Copper contacts.2. Plenty of space in the box to manipulate the wiring.3. A down facing receptacle. So, there was no strain on the heavy generator cord.4. A reasonable price.5. Shipping was a fairly quick turn-around time. This box met all those requirements. So, I bought it with hopes it was easy enough to install. It arrived quickly.I had to make a spacer that fit on the left side because of my mounting situation.Wiring instructions were included.Wiring it was pretty simple, since you can remove the receptacle plate from the box. This helps since you have to access the screws that tighten the wires down.So far, I’m very happy with this purchase and would buy it again.

I did a lot of research before purchasing this Generator Inlet Box and I am very pleased with the quality and sturdiness of this box. Installation was very easy. As to all of the other comments stating this box does not provide a "punch-out" for a 3/4" PVC fitting... they just don't know how to do this properly (see steps and photos). (1) After removing one of the 1/2" plugs, take a piece of 2x6 and a couple 1/8" shims (or something similar) and place "snugly" into the open area of the box as shown in the photos (leave the inlet in place). (2) take a piece of 3/4" PVC tube (or similar) and place over the lip of the remaining 3/4" punch-out. (3) Give the other end of the 3/4" PVC tubing a good "wack" with a hammer. (4) The 3/4" punch-out ring should pop out cleanly from the box.Wiring the box is very easy if you loop the wires as shown in the photo (I used #6 gauge wires). There was plenty of room within this box for all of the wires. I also like that the inlet is on the bottom of this box because a 6/3 generator extension cord could create a lot of stress on the box if plugged in from the front side.
