Product Description

Reflectix BP48010 Double Pack Insulation, 48 in. x 10 ft

From the Manufacturer

Reflectix is a 5/16-Inch thick, seven layer, reflective insulation which is available in rolls of various widths and lengths. It is used extensively in both specialty and standard construction projects. Two outer layers of aluminum foil reflect 97-Percent of radiant heat. Each layer of foil is bonded to a tough layer of polyethylene for strength. Two inner layers of insulating bubbles resist conductive heat flow, while a center layer of polyethylene gives Reflectix high reliability and strength.

This is great material. Easy to cut, the size was perfect to make window covers for all seven windows in our 28' travel trailer. Helped to keep the heat down inside the camper on the hottest of days.

I live in Alabama. It gets hot as Satan's taint here and my bedroom windows face the sun all day No amount of blackout curtains can keep the heat out. I have 2 sets on each curtain rod. I got this insulation and cut it to fit each window. It has absolutely helped keep my room cooler than last summer. My only issue with this product is that it came rolled up and they used a sticky type of glue to keep it from unraveling. The glue is impossible to remove, so it ruins a good section (maybe about 6-12" or so of one end, so keep that in mind when figuring out how much of this you need for your purposes. That being said, I would absolutely purchase this again. I'm so happy that my room isn't 10 degrees warmer than the rest of the house now, and my air conditioner can actually keep this room cooler.

There's a real temptation to go into commercial voice with this product, and I'll try my best not to.Insulation is a wonder of the modern world, and this product is no exception. If you deal with excessive heat in the summers, or excessive cold in the winters, this is a good product to buy. I bought this product to use in my vehicles, a truck and an RV, and it's perfect for that purpose to stop sunlight from baking the inside of each. This insulation alone, if used correctly, is sufficient to making almost any vehicle comfortable even in the summer, but it's use is even better in houses. It can be used as normal insulation in walls, but not very effectively, and I feel the true purpose of Reflectix is to put in your windows either in place of or to complement a curtain. It makes a huge difference in your heating bills in the winter, and a big difference cooling the house in the winter. That said, if you can get this product locally, it's probably cheaper.

Here in Central Arizona the summer of 2020 was the longest, dryest, hottest summer in Arizona history. That means the summer started in mid May, had more consequtive days of 110°+ temps (even at 3am it never dropped below 92°) and even though we can usually get a reprieve each summer with the monsoon rains, we got less than 1/2" of rainfall TOTAL the entire year. Usually by Halloween I need to put on a sweatshirt to go outside at night, but last year I was wearing tank tops and shorts until mid November. To say it was miserable here is a bigger understatement than saying 2020 had a few unexpected hiccups. It's now 2021, mid May, over 100° outside already by noon every day, and we've had less rain so far this year than we did by this time last year. So in order to avoid $350/mo electric bills this year, I re-sealed all my windows and doors, added UV film + Reflectix insulation to every window. I measured each window frame and cut a piece of Reflectix 2" larger in both height & width to completely block any trace of sunlight from coming through. The extra length on each side has a dual purpose. It provides enough material on all sides to not only cover the window panes, but overflows to the sides of the window frame to ensure no light (heat) can get through, and also holds the entire piece firmly in place without the need for any adhesive or other tools/hardware to keep 100% of the sun's rays out.I've had every window in the front half of my house covered with Reflectix for just over a month now, and i just compared my 2020 April & May electric bills to this year's April bill and usage so far up till today (May 27), and both of this year's bills are at least 60% lower than last year's. SIXTY percent! And that's after our electric company raised our rates 12-13% last fall. If the rates had stayed the same, the window film plus Relectix would have lowered my total cost of electricity this summer by up to 73%!!! If this stuff can reduced the cost of electricity throughout an entire Arizona summer by nearly 75% every month, you'd have a heck of a time finding a climate and situation that would test it's effectiveness as well. I'm a customer for life after the results I got this year. I bought 2 rolls (48" x 10' each) and it was enough to cover all 7 double windows in my house. It works so well at blocking UV rays and preventing things inside from getting sun bleached and dry rotted that I bought a third roll to use a window shades in both our cars so it's not 140° in them with seat belt buckles that will burn the skin right off you if you accidentally touch it. Not only does this block up to 75% of heat, but it also blocks the UVB (rays that cause sunburns) AND UVA rays (the rays that cause signs of premature aging of skin and hair.)If you are looking for a way to keep an older mobile home cool throughout the summer, grab a couple rolls of Reflectix, cut each piece 2" bigger than the area you need covered, and see how much of a difference it makes. The cost of 2 rolls has already paid for itself in the saving i got on my first month's electric bill. It's a no brainer. 2 rolls will save me over $1000 this year alone. What else is there to know?

Bought this to put inside our Dutch Star RV's windshield to protect the dash when not in use. Found out it was great to use when we're camping in an area that is facing the sun. Keeps the interior much cooler, less strain on your air conditioners. Read online (a DIY person) that you could tape it on the outside of windshield to get a more accurate fitting. Then use the windshield wipers to hold it in place, use a marker, cut it with scissors, take it inside and fit it into place. Online also suggested that you could use small, plastic Command hooks to hold in place. We didn't find the need to do that, it stayed in place just fine. Enough left over to use on entry door window for times when sun is coming in. Just roll it up when you're not using it. Very happy with product. Also a very good price ($20) in comparison to some ready-made windshield protectors that we looked at, costing between $100-$300. Highly recommend.
