The FrostJoy Rechargeable Heated Ice Cream Scoop is a functional and convenient tool to have in one's "kitchen arsenal". The scoop feels solid in the hand and has a nice weight to it giving it the impression of being constructed of good materials.The scoop does take a bit to heat up, maybe a good 40 seconds or more before it'll be effective at scooping cold ice cream. During this time, the temperature readout is a bit erratic jumping up a few degrees then hanging out there for a while. Ultimately, the digital readout is not all that useful and I have never seen it get close to the 150 degrees mentioned. A simple LED that lights when it considers itself to be ready would have been more than sufficient.The battery seems to last quite a while considering that it's basically powering a heating element, something that often takes a bit of power. The inclusion of USB-C charging is a nice plus considering I have a lot of other kitchen gear that uses this same connection.In the end, I only wish it heated faster and maintained its temperature better. While it helps with the initial cut into a cold block of ice cream, that heat is quickly overpowered by the cool temperature of the ice-cream reducing the overall effectiveness. Furthermore, the lack of a basic on/off button is confusing, especially when one is done with the scoop and wishes to simply put it away, there's no simple way to turn it off without leaving it on the counter to turn itself off.

I gotta admit - This is an idea that has been in my head for years. It just makes sense! I mean, a heated ice cream scoop is genius! I used to take our ice cream scoop and run it under hot water before using it, which would allow easier scooping until it cooled enough. With this, you don't have to worry about losing the heat when scooping into the ice cream. It stays warm throughout use and makes it so much easier to scoop out ice cream!One thing I really like is that it actually shows the temperature of the scoop on the end of the handle. It has a little display that shows the battery charge and the temperature right on the end in bright labeling. Charging time isn't too bad - it takes a few hours to charge it from empty. And it seems to work quite a while on one charge. I estimate we get about an hour to two hours of use on a charge, which tends to go over multiple fillings in our house as we don't use it for more than a few minutes each time. In fact, I think in the month we have had it, I have only charged it twice - once when we got it and once about a week ago. Not too bad, considering how small the battery would have to be to fit into the handle of this thing!All in all, I think this one was a winner! My family loves it and for once, the dang thing doesn't get lost all the time! As soon as we are done using it, it gets rinsed and washed by hand and put back into the drawer, ready for the next use. Our old one always seems to get lost in the dishwasher or somewhere between there and the drawer. Not this! I can easily recommend it because, hello - it makes scooping ice cream so much easier!!!! Better than running a scoop under hot water!
