This little shovel hones in and is great for removing deeply rooted weeds near a plant, so that you don’t disturb the whole area. Saves your back also.

I received my Root Slayer Nomad as a gift 4 years ago. I'm a serious gardener and since owning this, I've been able to do so many heavy digging jobs that I wouldn't have otherwise been able to do. It does all the work for you and saves your back. It's dug out quite a few old stumps and keeps going after so much abuse. I see why there is a lifetime guarantee. It's indestructible! It's also great for digging a quick hold too. It's lightweight and very easy to use. I also have the hand version which is also quite wonderful.

It does exactly as it says. The sides of the angled spade are serrated thus cutting through fibrous roots easily even in the hands of a short older person

I was hesitant to buy the metal detecting version for metal detecting because I thought I wanted the round handle. But I saw enough reviews mentioning the metal detecting version being good for metal detecting so I went with it. What I didn't realize is the handle and the angled shovel are fantastic for standing in one spot and digging a round hole. The handle basically stays over the center of the plug as you turn it around, and the foot piece is perfect for pressure to dig. And as others have stated, it digs very easily. Even in hard dry ground, it pulls out a plug with ease. While walking I use a belt magnet that the handle attaches to nicely. But it's also light enough to carry, or even drag behind you with a finger through the hole. Great shovel, highly recommend.

This shovel is perfect for me! I am a five foot tall 80-year old woman who loves to garden! Regular wide blade long shovels just do not do the job for me anymore. The serrated edges and V-shape of this shovel blade digs right into the dirt with very little effort on my part. It's so perfect that I've bought two more for my family members who also love gardening. It's very sturdy and solid, easy to clean, and this version is not too big for me to handle while pushing my wheelbarrow around my garden. I think it's gonna last me for a long time.

This shovel is perfect for metal detecting & gardening. I've never sharpened it, but it seems to do well regardless. Very sturdy and well built. I've chopped through 1" roots with the inverted "V"-blade.My wife borrows it so much, I had to buy another.Note: It is titled Radius, but this is particularly the least expensive, (and 5" shorter), "Nomad" version, without the circular ring on the end of the handle.Three years of heavy metal detecting digging and gardening, and still going strong.

The Radius Garden 22311 Root Slayer Nomad is very convenient and effective for work in the garden - eradication of weeds, shoots around fruit trees and more. I hope to deal with the endless rhizomes of lilac bushes... I really appreciate this purchase, which exceeds my expectations.

This ergonomically designed serrated shovel is lightweight, durable, and easy to use. It lets you dig up compacted soil and cut through roots with ease.We bought this to help remove our Heavenly Bamboo Nandina shrubs that had taken over our flower bed. They are a bear to get rid of!My only complaint is that the handle is too small. It is a tiny knob and really should have been bigger. I would have designed a strong D-Handle grip.

It's a great tool for digging up smaller trees, the one in the photo still needed a sawzall obviously, but it cut fast through the roots up to one inch. I have used it to dig up perennials, fig trees, and other rooted areas with great success. I am a professional landscaper for 25 years and this saves me time. It is not efficient for digging holes to plant 3-4 gallon trees or shrubs etc, perhaps the larger model would work there. If this was 3/4" wider think it would be improved. With this Nomad you will still need a round point shovel for that, but it works for smaller stuff. I was hoping for a more all around tool, ie: use this for weeding while kneeling, but it is a bit heavy for that, I will look to purchase the lightweight small shovel when it is back in stock.

Being easier to carry around than the two or three shovels it replaces, this has rapidly become my go to. It penetrates packed earth with ease and takes about half as long to dig out stubborn weeds as a sharp shooter. The blade is sharp and very sturdy. I have pushed as hard as I could on it without any sense that the blade or shaft was weakening. A hard stomp will break through roots about a quarter-inch thick. I have not been able to make it work efficiently like a saw as some reviewers have, but for really thick roots an old folding saw is an easy substitute. In addition to cutting roots I like the shovel as a shallow trenching tool, and have used it to prepare the ground to lay out a walkway. Similarly, it works well for very light weeding. It is also an easy way -- being light enough to use one-handed -- to break up packed soil in preparation for planting. I really like the length; it is short and light enough to manipulate while kneeling, and comfortable to use when standing up. I was a bit unsure of the strange looking handle at first, but found the design makes it easier to use one-handed (when, for example you are holding back branches with your other hand). In all, had I known how useful this little tool would be I would have bought one a long time ago.
