If you told me that I could or should get excited about a friggin microphone arm, you would be crazy! I will caveat this, as this is my first of 1. I have a couple of cheap arms for other things, just not microphones. I DO, however, know quality when I see it. So, I bought the Rode XDM 100 microphone because I plan to start a podcast at some point. I reviewed reviews on about 40+ swing arms and kept arriving at this one, the Rode PSA1+.Let's get this out of the way first. It's one of the more expensive arms, but for the cost difference, the small amount to pay for the upgrade is worth it. The construction is made of high-quality materials. I like that the arm does NOT have a spring on it. Springs tend to make noise when you move them. Rode claims that it is "smooth and silent." I am here to tell you that it is.In addition to the above, I find the following important too:* I have to say that I love the way I can tighten the microphone in place with two opposing and easy-to-use nuts that are formed for your fingers to turn. The XDM 100 is a horse, so it's good to know that once I lock it into place, it will stay put. You don't have to be a powerlifter to crank it down. This brings up another point.* The microphone I have is pretty heavy. I am not sure of the weight. It is slightly lighter than the Rode NT1 5th gen I tried. The arm moved around in all directions, and held it up without fail. I believe it can handle more weight with no problem.* For cable management, four integrated snap-in clamps hold your USB or XLR cable in place, keeping them discrete. The rest is up to you.* The neoprene cover is nice because it dresses up the arm, which is built like any other. There are four bars connected to a pivot point. Two on top. Two on the bottom. It's kind of like a human arm in a sense because of the two bars on the top. Sure, it's a novelty to have the Røde logo on it, but honestly, it looks much nicer than the PSA1, which is basically the same thing without the cover. Okay, $30 for a stupid cover? A little pricey if you ask me, but I am glad I spent the extra $ for it. Shame on you, Røde!* The hardest part about installation was figuring out exactly where to place the base. After that, it only took as long as I needed to twist the screw-on clamp onto my desk and then put the post (at the bottom of the arm) into the hole. DONE. There is no need for instruction because it's just simple to figure out.I don't get super excited over much, but I am more than satisfied with the Røde PS1+. Maybe that's why it has a 4.8 rating over 1,169 customers as of today (6/11/2024)

I have been a RODE customer for years. And until now have used mic stands. But setting up my new studio space I needed to maximize floor space and stands just clutter up the place. I was looking for a boom arm for a while. And once I found the great reviews on the PSA1+ I was convinced.Honestly from the packaging which is first class, very protective and well thought out. To the effortless setup, which includes two attachment choices for you. 1 method is the clamp, which is a well thought out design, it has a broad and importantly FLAT connector between the two desk top piece and the under desk screw clamp. The broad flat connector means it can brace against the flat edge of your surface and stop any rotation or twisting of the mount.Method 2 a very cool looking 'in desk' solution. It requires drilling if you want to use this. But it is a very nice light gold anodized metal with cable management holes. I would have used this if I had the space on my studio desk. But I wanted it mounted right at the back of my top shelf as you see in my photos. So I can tuck the mic out of the way. I thought it might be too close to the edge to drill there.Once attached it is ROCK SOLID. With the microphone attached (my RODE mic) the arm is setup with a nice counterweight to it. Mic and arm moves as one piece and stays exactly where I put it. I did not have to adjust the tension at all, it worked right out of the box. Of course that might be more luck than anything else. But if needed both segments of the arm can have their tension increased or decreased.I looked at much cheaper alternatives and some really expensive ones above this price point. But this is the arm to choose. You won't be dissapointed.
