About this item

  • Horticultural vermiculite is permanent, clean, odorless, non-toxic, sterile and pH neutral. It will not deteriorate, turn moldy or rot. It is typically mixed with soil, peat, composted pine bark, fertilizers, pesticides and herbicides and promotes faster root growth and quick anchorage to young roots.
  • Horticultural vermiculite is a natural ‘wicking’ mineral. The vermiculite granules attract and hold ammonium, potassium, calcium and magnesium needed for the growing plants. Additionally, the vermiculite/peat mixture provides excellent aeration and retention of plant food and moisture. The growing plants take what they need (food, air, water, minerals), when they need it from the vermiculite granules, thus less maintenance for the grower and healthier plants with higher yields.
  • Because the vermiculite granules can soak up to over three times its original volume in water it can be a very useful component in a passive hydroponics system that does not utilize pumps or other devices to force the nutrient solution to flow. Additionally, it is perfect for seed germination and cutting propagation.
  • Vermiculite Medium Granule. Horticultural medium grade is brown in color. Density is 6.5 to 8.5 lb. per cubic foot. Used for plus mixes, soil-less mixes, germination mixes, or rooting mixes.
  • Virtually eliminates damping off problems

This is a very large bag, but it's easy to move around due to the light weight of vermiculite. This will last the average gardener a long time and is a much better value than buying small bags of name-brand vermiculite.

I liked the results I got with my first raised bed so I bought another for the other one

I am a backyard gardener. I try to produce as much food as I can in a suburban back yard. I use vermiculite from seed starting to up potting plants. I go though 2 of these bags a year, growing in all 4 seasons (my lettuce might not survive this second arctic blast). It is more economical to purchase it in bulk. I mix it into the seed starting mix I make myself. I also add it to my raised beds to help keep the soil from getting dense. I use pearlite also to mix into my raised beds when amending the soil.

This medium sized vermiculite is definitely perfect for plant propagation. I truly think it is of the highest quality I have ever felt or seen.

Different companies considered course, medium, and fine differently. I bought this brand in medium and it was more similar to a brand that I bought in fine. Next time I'm going to go with course other than that it serves its purpose perfectly and I'm very happy with the product.

If you can find this on Amazon for sub $40, this is an amazing deal. Online greenhouse stores sell this identical bag for $50. The particle size was as expected, nice fine quality and does well with our plants. Make our own at home potting mix using this brand of vermiculite and perlite. Nothing bad to say. Just don’t breathe in the dust.

The coarseness and particle size is perfect for starting cuttings, seeds, and for mixing into potting soil. Great value as well! Shipped in a strong bag and then in a cardboard box. Serves its purpose!

I have been growing almost all of our veggies and herbs in my basement under LED lights for over 7 years. Although I use an excellent potting soil that contains perlite, humus, etc., most plants do better in a loamy soil. By definition, loamy soil contains sand. I tried adding sand to a couple of pots, and it very much increased the weight of the pots. In addition, most sand you can find is to fine to be of any help for drainage or aeration. Vermiculite serves the same purpose as sand, but is much lighter in weight.Initially, I was buying 30 quart bags of vermiculite at a cost of $37, but I grow so much it was getting very expensive to use. I found this 103 quart bag of medium vermiculite for about $10 more, so I decided to try it. This vermiculite comes in a huge bag, and will last me for a while. This vermiculite is very clean, but finer than what I had been using. So, I decided to buy a bag of the same size in course and mix them. This has been working out very well, and my plants seem to be happier.I hope this review was helpful for you.
