I was curious about electric magnetic sources in my house. Obviously with everything pretty much operated by electricity there are going to be everywhere. I was curious what was the worst source at putting them out. I was surprised that it was the router in my office that was the culprit of the highest output of them. I was a couple of feet away from it when the detector picked up the router. I don’t know what it really means to be surrounded by these waves all the time, but I’m guessing it probably has some affect on us. It was an eye opener to see what is all around us everyday, and we never see it.

This unit seems to respond appropriately to different types of electromagnetic radiation, and the display has large digits and a bright backlight that make it easy to read.The EF (electric field) reading responds when the unit nears anything with electric charge, like static electricity buildup. Basically any time there's some sort of voltage potential in the air. Unlike RF, this is either low frequency AC or even DC.MF (Magnetic Field) shows moving magnetic fields (not static!) When looking at a device, it'll show any electrical transformers, and also responds to electromagnets like those in speakers and motors. It won't detect a magnet, unless you're moving the magnet past the sensor.Finally, the RF section detects higher frequency electromagnetic waves, like those used in wireless communication. Bring this close to your internet routerAlerting modes let you use the backlight color or sound to warn when readings get above the alert and avoid thresholds. Holding the power button cycles through combinations of having them both on, only one or the other, and none, for a total of four modes. There's also a MAX functionality, to hold the reading at the max observed, and a hold button to freeze readings at will.Readings appear sensible, although I don't have the equipment to verify accuracy. Unlike others, I'm using this more for electrical testing purposes instead of ghost hunting, and it has revealed a lot of 'noisy' electronics. It's pretty fascinating.Build quality is pretty good, with a sturdy plastic shell and felt feet, to allow you to slide it along surfaces. My only complaint is that it uses old 9V batteries, instead of AAs, but that's reaching. The included bag feels a bit cheap, but it's still functional and protects the unit in storage.I honestly have no real complaints. If you want to poke around the world of unseen electrical fields that come out of everyday gadgets, it's a fairly affordable way to do so.

For $35 this ghost detector (EMF) seems to work well for Electric and Magnetic field detection. However, I can't seems to detect any Radio Frequency waves. Maybe mine is defective? The color indication for detection is nice. Comes with a 9V battery and soft protective case.UPDATE: I was able to detect RF waves coming from a microwave oven, so I've changed from 3 to 4 rating. Also the press power button to turn on and off and long press power button to switch settings is designed reversed, you want to prevent accidental turning on by long pressing power button.

This EMF reader is well made and appears accurate. It's not expensive either. You can use it for checking EMF in your daily life or if you are brave enough you can use it for ghost hunting. I'm a bit nervous when I turn it on because of that fact, I don't want to know if there is any sort of ghostly activity around me (I don't need one of these to tell that anyways). But for checking local EMF of electronics, it works great. It doesn't feel cheap and the different modes are easy to use and understand. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to test for EMF or even ghosts.

If you want to know the safe distance between certain device, you should get this this EMF detector. it will tell you exactly what the radiation field level is when you are standing in front of that device. for example, the radiation from the Microwave is about 1-2ft. so I now, as soon as I turn on the mircowave oven, I step 2ft away from it. Same for the router. I used to keep the router need my bedside. Now, I move it away from me. I keep it at one corner where I don't spend most of my time there. Overall, this is a great little device for telling you the level of radiation/electronmagnetic field of all the device around us.
