Do you have any vertical or horizontal sliding windows with loose-fitting, worn or missing locks? Besides adding a “new look” to your windows with a fresh set of locking hardware, these sash locks can help add peace of mind by restoring the security features on your sliding windows. These locks feature a design that allows them to lock single-hungs, double-hungs and some horizontal sliding windows. Each lock features a cam-type locking mechanism that mounts on the checkrail of the innermost sash and engages into the keeper that mounts onto the checkrail of the outermost sash. The upper, outermost sash on vertical sliding windows determines if it is a “single hung” or “double hung.” If the upper, outermost sash is non-movable, then it is a single hung window. A “double hung” window refers to both sash having the ability to slide up and down for ventilation purposes, and these sash locks can fit on both model types, in addition to some left/right horizontal sliding windows. The locks are constructed of diecast zinc and come in a corrosion-resistant, industry standard, black-painted finish to match other existing hardware that may already be in the home or office. Depending on the size of the sash, these locks can be used as singles or in pairs. Each set includes one lock, one keeper, installation fasteners and simple instructions. Installation of these locks is quick and easy and can be done with a simple handheld Phillips head screwdriver. Other design features include a 5/16 inch narrow keeper, cam-action fastening, and 2-1/4 inch mounting hole centers. Compare the style and dimensions of this lock to those required on your sliding windows and order yours today.

I used this lock to replace old ones that had bent over time due to small screws shifting the lock base. HELPFUL TIPS: Buy #8, 3/4” black sheet metal screws (if all you can get is silver, you can paint/marker the head to black). The screws that come with the lock are puny and rattle loose over time. (See image) The #8 size will fit the lock. If your hole is a bit smaller, pre-drill with the new screw before installing. Next— you do not need the second piece if you windows are flush and have a slot for the lock in the non-moving side of the window. This is a solid and simple lock that when installed correctly does its job.

I bought these to replace some sash locks, which I personally do not like at all. I prefer this type of design. These are low cost solid locks. I will say they aren't painted the best but are good enough for their intended purpose. If you are wanting something that is of super high quality I would move on as these often have a bit of metal on the screws you should snap off. Still for the money these are acceptable window locks and work well. I would order them again for sure.

The product is what it says it is. However, the manufacturer should, but does not, state the weight range of the sash and the spacing between sash & frame these are intended to work with. My sashes are 12lbs each and there’s a varying amount of space between sash & frame of 3/8-1/2” (very old house & window). There’s not enough overlap of travel on the frame so I put two of these on each sash & they initially did nothing. I added varying thicknesses of wood pieces between the product & sash to increase friction and that works to varying degrees but not smoothly. I’ve given up on trying to use this product and ordered clock-spring type sidemount sash balancers for this application. The provided nails are brittle crap, the head broke off the first one I put in, I suggest using similar nails that you trust.

These little gizmos work great in my 1928 wood windows. They do require two nails that come in the package. I only had to use one sash spring on each window and they stay in place and aren't hard to open and close. I nailed the gizmo to the window sash and not to the frame. I was concerned that they might scratch the frame as the window goes up and down but that has not happened. I have installed them on both painted and stained window frames. To replace my broken sash ropes would have required removing all of the the window trim as there is no other way to access the weight pockets. This was WAY easier and less mess. On some windows I only had to remove the stop on one side of the window in order to remove the sash. I highly recommend this product.
