Inspect your item carefully as one of the stops was cracked in packaging so makes me question durability. In an effort to get a replacement for the cracked one, I called KidCo to report and they said call Amazon. Amazon call back automated support reported "no option" since packaging wasn't damaged.....

You literally hold the hinge open from frame to window as it tries to spring closed. While doing so you screw it in. The soft plastic shreds from the screws and the long screws hit the hard wood beam and will not go flush with the frame. That aside, once installed it’s the most safe and effective I’ve found. I feel safer with two per window, one left and one right, but that’s your call as it will make it much harder to disengage if you ever needed to. If you are doing multiple windows I mark 4 inches on the packaging and walk around with that to avoid constantly rechecking the measurements.

My husband had these installed within an hour of receiving them, and we had guests! Hubby tends to procrastinate, but these were so easy to install and so very needed that he just drilled the pilot holes and attached the locks. Easy peasy! It's been almost a week and so far the 2-year-old hasn't figured them out. She can unlatch the other two locks on our vinyl windows, but she hasn't bothered with this one. I'm hopeful it will last awhile, as our split-level home has an upper level living room with low windows. Oh, and they're easy enough for anybody else to open if we do need to open the window farther for some reason. So far, very pleased with this purchase and would buy again.

I have an over hundred years old home with big heavy wood windows so this is not going hold them open and not needed to keep closed as an adult has a hard time opening. They are spring loaded and difficult to hold clip back so to open heavy wooden window.

Alot of products for this purpose don't work on old wooden windows with weights... This was easy to install on my 100 year old house, and will help keep my toddler safe. If someone was trying to break in with a crow bar they could definitely break these.

Well made plastic window stops. Installs easily with 2 screws in the window frame. Some other reviewers have noted that these would not keep the kids from opening the window even with the stops installed. Disregard these people. They have pet gorillas that they call their "children" to be cute. "Parents" of gorillas might do better to invest in iron bars. They do lever outwards to allow for the window to be opened, but a small child could not manage this. Nor could they smash it open with brute force. I am an adult human male. Not a gorilla. Really.
