Bought 2 boxes most were broke and I would blame the shipping process but trying to write or draw anything would also cause them to break at least in half. Still fine to use as a half.

I love prang chalk in general and this is no exception. It’s smoother to work with than other brands and has bright bold colors. The picture above is how many whole pieces of chalk made it to my house once shipped (about 60%). It would be a dream come true to have double the bright colors. I don’t ever use the grey, most of the purples and darker/duller blues and greens as they don’t show up on a black (chalkboard) background.

Good quality chalk, but just received via currier and opened the box to find 102 pieces of 144 broken and many as small as 1cm. The other box of chalk I ordered was perfect with no breaks so not sure how this was so so damaged (box looks in perfect shape). Kids were sad to find their new homeschool chalk so damaged.

What a great price for this! Pieces were broken but what do you expect? It’s chalk, it’s going to break no matter what! The colors are great. There is a wide assortment. I used them on paper and stretch canvas. Spraying hairspray on the art work helps from smudging

I have counted all of the chalk in the box, and it came to 146 'pieces' of chalk. Each 'piece' is about 10-30% of a 'stick' of chalk. Mine also came with a loose piece of metal in the box! This is clearly a return item, with a piece of metal thrown in to make it seem heavier than it actually is. This will be my first return ever. Very poor quality.

I used these for a chalk craft in my church youth group. They worked perfectly and the colors were very pigmented and bright. Some of them arrived broken, but that was fine. I ended up breaking them in half to share with all the kids and they worked better using the broken end.

Love the vibrant colors! A few pieces came broken but it does not affect use. We've only used them on art paper so far but it spreads nicely with your finger if you want a "watercolor" look. I purchased the small package but now I wish I would have purchased the larger one. Will do when these run out!Edited to add: They work better when broken. I ended up breaking them all on purpose. I have also used them on a chalkboard since I posted this review and they work great (though not as vibrant as they are on paper.) They also wipe off fine.

This chalk is incredibly soft. Even though it's meant for artwork on paper, we use it as chalkboard chalk. The colours are amazingly vibrant (even the black!), and despite its fragility it holds up decently well in the hand. I highly recommend this set for both art on paper, as well as science and mathematics on the blackboard.

These are wonderful, soft, almost buttery feeling chalks. They feel and color very similarly to Mercurius chalks (often sold in Waldorf school supply shops), but are thinner sticks.They are wonderful for blackboard art! They are very vibrant, and blend easily. For blackboard *writing* I prefer a harder stick chalk (Prang, Crayola, etc) but for blackboard *art*, these are perfect.A few arrived broken, but this wasn't a problem for me, as we usually snap our art chalks anyhow. I find chalk chunks are just easier to use on a mounted blackboard than long sticks.I'm using a porcelain black board and haven't had any staining issues. (Yet!)

You can't beat the price on these. I teach an introductory art class and these are wonderful. They work both for coloring on paper directly and staining your paper by transfering the chalk rubbings using a qtip or tissue. As with all chalks, they do rub off. Just be sure to spray your paper with a sealer when you are finished. As far as breaking. They do break when you push hard or drop them, but don't all chalks. What's great about paper chalk is that using small pieces is usually desirable.
