Inspired by traditional tailor's chalk, Art Graf Tailor Shape is a rich, water-soluble square of pigment. It is extremely soft and provides artists with a wide range of shades depending on the amount of water use. Create light, transparent tones or deep, rich, opaque colors. When diluted, the Tailor's Shape acts similarly to an ink. It can also be used dry as a drawing medium by itself and is erasable. Each disc can be used as an entire block to draw or paint with or color can be picked up from the block with a brush, similarly to how you would use traditional watercolor paint. Mix blocks to create an infinite array of colors. Each disc measures 1 3/4 x 2 inches. Made by Viarco in Portugal since 1907.

Worked well to mark my painting and I got the effect I wanted. It was a little harder than I expected and arrived broken in two peices. This did not make a problem for me when I used it. Will definately purchase again.

It is very nice when dry but the color really pops when wet, so stunning and vivid. They mix well when wet but I have to play with them to get the color I want.Update 01/17: I received magenta today. Such a beautiful color, even more so when wet.

I read the reviews before purchasing-thank you, everyone who goes to the effort to comment on purchases--and saw a number of comments about not being able to get a purple when mixing these colors, which suggested to me that the red leaned more towards orange than towards a blue-red. This has proven to be the case--the red is kind of brick color.Given that heads-up, I also ordered the singleton magenta to fill in the gap. The magenta and blue together make a very pretty range of true purples from lilac and lavender through a deep iris If you're seeking purple--there you go.I also find that the cover for the cork three-pack is sized generously enough to slip the single in on top of another piece of graphite--obviously not while wet, but it's a means of keeping the spare from wandering.I also have a green (looks like a blue-green in the picture) singleton on order. If anyone is curious about how this blends, let me know and I'll post the outcome.

Very very water soluble and Will last a very very long time!Few things I noticed.> Label color gradient is misleading. It makes it seem like it is capable of concentrating to a near black. This is not true. It goes to a deep sepia brown color but not black ever.> It also appears more red in the picture, making the actual color appear yellow by comparison.> The color changes colors from wet to dry. Wet it is a bit more yellow, which I didn't appreciate when first using, but dried to a more true sepia shade.Other than these things, it makes a good general value paint, and mixes with watercolor well. It dullens bright colors readily into really nice muted shades.

Artgraf Graphite Disc is a multipurpose item. Use it dry to draw on paper, canvas, wood, etc., use it to draw on wet surfaces, dampen it to create bold lines, or use it as watercolor with a wet brush. I've used Graphite Disc in each of these ways. I especially like it for quick sketches with a wet brush and I've added to my oil and cold wax paintings.

Love these cakes. I Have mine in a small container that I stash in my bag with a travel brush. It is rich in color and intensity or subtle in a wash and love all the ranges in between. Very high quality. A little goes a long way. Best cakes I've bought. I use them for fast sketches mostly, but I know I will be using them even more in my other art.
