Set up was pretty easy. It is heavy but I was able to put it together alone. Delivery service was not what was advertised - they unilaterally rescheduled. After a call and 1/2+ on the phone and a promised call back the next day which never came they fortunately arrived when my daughter was home to accept. As for use - it beats the bench top Delta hollow mortiser by miles. Much more accurate, easy and quick. Its a lot easier and than a plunge router with templates or the router table. And it goes pretty quickly. All it does is chop mortises. The mortise and tennon is such an important and frequently used joint I am really glad I bought this tool. I have not set up compound or angled joints, but those look pretty good too from what I can see.

Great Mortiser works very well plenty of power does not bog down. Machine is well made not a big fan of the plastic depth control handle but it should serve for years. Arrived on time from shipper the only complaint about shipper is the box was wet yes wet very wet called shipper to notify about condition it was not raining when delivered in fact hadn't rained in several days. Probably got wet waiting for local freight delivery location. The tool was very well packed and wrapped so moister did not affect machine. Have plenty of muscle available to put on stand as this puppy is very heavy but worse than that not balance very well when you go to lift so you need at least 2 people 3 is what I had and the lift to the stand went ok.

Great machine but be ready to lift 236 lb. "net weight of machine, it comes all ready assembled. Adding a 6' assembly of wood and / or rollers to the cabinet bottom will bring up the table working surface that will greatly put to rest any back aching issue from having to bend over too much. I like the fact that I can go from 115v to 220v which I prefer to greatly lower the electrical cost of running this machine. The only thing I say negative about this machine is the little door to the cabinet storage. It is mounted backwards. The door hinge is to the front of the machine which means that the door opens towards you and not away from you as it should. And the door is located on the left side not the normal right side of the machine cabinet with the hinges mounted to the back of the machine not the front. I mounted the my machine so that the Powermatic label is facing the back so I can have my door in the correct location to the right side of the machine cabinet. I used a 4 rope Block & Tackle to load my machine.

Amazon delivery was first rate. It's hard to believe that they were able to get it here as fast as they did. Crew was helpful getting it off of the truck and into my shop. They went above and beyond.Assembly took approximately an hour. Everything went together with ease and minimal adjustment was required. This is an extremely well made tool - far superior to a drill press attachment or a bench top mortiser. One minor complaint is that the work surface is very low. I ended up making a mobile base under it to raise it 5.25". Much better work height.

Cheaply made, China garbage. Buy a Rich Line mortiser. Rich Line American made in Wiscosin. It is a router mortiser. Vertical.

I bought this machine because my Jet JBM-5 benchtop mortiser wasn't up to the task of cutting 1/2" through mortises in two inches of white oak, despite bolting it to the benchtop and using sharp chisels and even, finally, pre-drilling on my drill press. I gave it to a friend who is happy with it cutting 1/4" and 3/8" mortises in mahogany and cherry. The Powermatic has twice the horsepower and a longer lever arm, a much more secure workpiece hold-down, wheels to move the work in and out and sideways, and built-in stops. The table tilts for angled mortises, but I haven't had occasion to try that yet. I experimented with it during set-up; movement is smooth, but the table is very heavy, and for accuracy I'd use something like a Wixey angle gauge rather than rely on the scale on the machine. This machine is made in Taiwan, to the standards Powermatic is known for; fit and finish quality are high, the handwheels move the table smoothly, the motor is powerful, and it makes accurate mortises. The stops could be a little sturdier. My only real complaint is that the stand is too low even though it's raised slightly by the mobile base, makes me stoop (I'm 5'-9"). The table is 32.5" from the floor with the mobile base; it needs to be 36" high for accurate, comfortable work.It wasn't adequately packed for shipping, and arrived with a dented stand. Since it wasn't too bad, I hammered it out rather than call the shipper back. I love the machine but I deducted 3/4 of a star for making me stoop and 1/4 for not packing it better, though I'd probably give it 4.5 if I could.

First of all, I'm an old-school, professional furnituremaker. I'm pretty fast with a drill press and a couple Sorby mortising chisels. This mortiser is exquisite. For the money it's a huge leap forward in my shop, easily slated to pay for itself within a month. The table's movement, after backing off the factory squeeze on the dovetail gibs a bit, is butter. The side travel end stops could be stronger and easier to get at but they're head and shoulders ahead of the General International mortiser I looked over recently. The thing will mortise a 10" tall (wide) piece! Many details are thoughtfully and successfully worked out, and this tool has come a long way since my furnituremaking friend's Powermatic was made (maybe 10 years old). Clear and easy access to the chuck, excellent quick release part clamp, excellent adjustable pull handle, excellent moving table. Thanks for reading this. If you're on the fence and shopping for a mortiser, buy this one yesterday. You will love it and it will move your work forward.
