Light weight plenty of power. I have it on my 489 bbc 10:1 compression and it turns it over like nothing. Good value good quality

Starter will not disengage unless motor fires up, vehicle was at 12 volts and did not fire up first shot and voltage dropped, starter stayed engaged by the time i ripped positive terminal off the battery starter was smoking and is totally fried. Very disappointing purchase

Product is excellent, lightweight and much easier to install without a rack. As this is probably my 50th starter install on old muscle cars, both for my builds and customer builds, I did the stupid thing and didn't read the instructions. The 1971 El Camino has a roller 383 stroker, and an external Ford Solenoid from previous installs. I wired it like i would always wire it, with a jumper wire. Thank God on the first start attempt i heard the starter stay engaged, and shut it off. Went back and read the instructions and yep, these PMGR starters only require a 10-12GA wire from the load side of the Ford Solenoid down to the S terminal on the Powermaster Starter's solenoid. So its a simple move of the 2 gauge battery cable from the load side to the battery side (kind of a bitch getting both battery cables on), but as soon as i wired the 10GA wire from load side down, it fired up and continues to fire up perfectly every time. Great product, will buy many more in the future.

Great starter so far. No shimming needed in my application, which means quality machining. Unlike other starters the shank in smooth and wont stay extended during lash measuring, you must supply positive voltage to the solenoid only (no battery cable) and the solenoid will keep it engaged while you measure. Also it comes with socket head bolts which didn't work with my headers because of clearance so I had to reuse my old mounting bolts.

Cheap, spins my engine over plenty fast 10.3:1 355, low profile for headers and dual bolt pattern for both flex plates, been using for 2 years now no problem just make sure you check clearance on flexplate gear should be about .035, pry the gear out of the starter ( with battery cable disconnected or else your manually engaging the silonoid and it will turn engine over) and shove a piece of .035 welding wire inbetween gears to check clearance

I needed something a little smaller than stock for my third gen firebird engine swap. I went from the stock 305 with manifolds to a 383 with Hooker shorty headers. This unit was perfect. Small, powerful, and able to clock however you need. Whips the stroker over like nothing. I am only at 11:1 compression, but I suspect this would be good for much higher due to the gear reduction. Installed easily, works great.

The pinion gear on the starter is much shorter than the factory one. It also sits much farther and doesn't engage the full length of the teeth on the flywheel. The instruction even state something like 50% engagement is fine. How is this okay? It will wear your flywheel or flexplate out at record speed or not even work if you have a slightly worn flywheel/flexplate. Mine was a little worn but worked flawlessly with the stock starter and also the gm hiperformance ministarter I replaced the powermaster with. I believe they don't extend as far because of the more leverage on the bearing. Cheap materials I guess. Also, after taking the solenoid off I noticed the arm that moves the bendix from the solenoid is plastic!!! How long is that goimg to last being next to the exhaust before it gets brittle and breaks? Wish I could return it but I just got to putting it on. Save your money and buy a better one or use stock with the nose cone.

Nicely built starter, fits my 396 perfectly and spins it over effortlessly. Came with bolts and shims(did not need shims). Super fast delivery.
