Batteries barely fit in the item and once you do get them in it lights up for a few minutes and then never works again. Trash product.

I'm thrilled with the Portable Handheld Neon Tube Tester! As an electrician, this tool has made my job so much easier. It's compact, easy to use, and the color discriminator feature is a game-changer. Testing fluorescent bulbs, including energy-saving lamps, has never been this efficient. Highly recommended!

This inexpensive gadget takes the guess work out of trying to find the broken neon tubes in my beer signs. Just tap the antenna on the neon tube while holding/ taping the test button and “whala” the tube will light up a spark of gas tubing light. It’s just a flicker of light but that all you need to know to confirm that section of neon tubing is good. If you repeatedly test that section of tubing and don’t get the flicker/ glow then you know you have a bad tube. CASE CLOSED!

Simple to use. Tested my neon light fixture and determined it was the ballast that needed replacing. Good news.

I purchased this product on a hunch that it would test high intensity discharge (HID) lamps, and sure enough, it does cause an arc in the chamber of working lamps. This is a great time saver when troubleshooting, and the price is great too.

This is the basis for an RF Exciter.Intended to excite Nobile gases such as neon, to see if they function as intended. But, this is in effect a very small Tesla coil.It ionizes gas in the area, be that contained neon or free air, at very low power. But absolutely portable, and cheap! There's all sorts of things that can be done.Clearly this goes outside of the intended use.Thank you.Rudolph.

Used to test neon that was shipped from Texas. Works OK, does what I needed it to do. Cheap Chinese quality shipped in a box covered in Chinese writing. No directions of any kind included, but easy to figure out. Push the button and touch the neon. If it lights its good.

The only thing I dislike is the wording in the product is Chinese

Works for lighting up a fluorescent bulb but has to be held within a couple inches, really good for low power LF HV RF injection (i.e. RFI tester), possibly good for driving hand held plasma balls (with mods - untested). Another test was done putting a significant metallic mass (200g of steel) on the end which bumped up its range to 4 inches from the bulb under test (a T8). Ships direct from China via Prime. This is essentially like a plasma globe (without the globe) - most of these testers do a few 4kV at 300 kHz - so if your finger (or in my case under test, a knife) gets close a hissing violet RF arc will be drawn (0.25 inch) which won't shock you, but could cause a minor RF contact burn.Antenna is too short limiting usefulness as a bulb tester to those bulbs within arms reach. Battery compartment does not indicate polarity requirement (so test it right away after installing the 4x AAs it needs, reverse polarity long term WILL damage unit). Unit is 100% labeled in Chinese script (single button though - minor point). A model that could take 18650 Li-ION cell, longer antenna, adjustable TTL pulse (or hard on), and switch on/off vs holding a button would put A LOT more bulbs in reach for minor or no cost increase (i.e. to allow securing unit to an insulated rod and pointing it was high mounted bulbs). Again you get what you pay for... the $300 Fluke or Milwaukee means you won't be climbing the ladder as much, this Chinese special will do the basic test but you ARE going higher up the ladder and long term duty cycle (usage over 10 min period) it may fail- so if bulb testing of high ceiling mounted bulbs is routine a thing this would make a good backup but not a primary tester (get the Fluke)..Construction - you get what you paid for, unit is plastic welded shut, internal transformer is not held in place well (it rattles), and the antenna is only good for 6 inches reach.
