POR-15 Top Coat, Glossy BlackI applied this on my aluminum toolbox. After all was said and done, it seems to be a durable finish and sticks strongly. $50 for a quart of Top Coat plus POR-15 Metal Prep for $30 is quite expensive, so it’s my hopes that it holds up for a long time. It was relatively easy to work with and dries to touch within 3 hours. I didn’t need thinner or a reducer, but if it was to be sprayed it would be needed and would help with cleanup.I didn’t utilize the original por-rust prevention product for this scenario as it seemed unnecessary and overkill considering por-15 says this top coat can used by itself and my metal is aluminum which Top Coat can be applied directly to without a primer.Here were my steps:1 - I grinded to the bare aluminum metal with a 4-1/2” grinder wire wheel2 degreased whole toolbox with commercial degreaser, medium solution mix, brushed on and left it on for 10 minutes, then washed off water3 applied por-15 metal prep, whole quart, in intervals with spray bottle over 30 minutes to keep it wet with the product. Washed off with water then dried4 rolled on por-15 Top Coat, 3 coats (4 on top). Rolling is doable, but a sprayer would work much for coverage for something like this as it’s difficult to roll into the diamond shapes to cover the tiny crevices. Waited about 2 hrs between coats.5 let cure for 24 hours (cures in 72), then installed since the weather is good

I’ve used this product in the past with mixed results. I thought the direct to metal stuff would be a good option for a race chassis. Followed the instructions, cleaned, scuffed (hard scuff where I can see the scratches) and degreased. Painted the chassis, left untouched for well over a month. Washed the truck off after the first race with a pressure washer that I could’ve p****d harder than, peeled the paint like a mandarine orange. Chassis is now basically bare again. This is NOT direct to metal paint as it is advertised. This is direct to the dump paint though. Thanks for wasting my money and time. Do not buy this product!

This stuff was great to use after all the new metal flooring and Chanel in jeep. Painted inside and out before undercoating. Recommended by a professional custom body tech. This jeep floor will last forever

My top coat came out chunky even after stirring and shacking the product. I applied it towards the low end of the acceptable temp range. I had never used the product before so wasn’t sure if it would even out while curing. It ruined a really nice finish of the POR15. Now it looks like sheeet.

I have very mixed feelings on this product. If the paint actually will stick to the metal, it’s a great product. However, if you don’t have the most perfect surface, it peels up like tape. I at first spent many, many weeks sanding down the rust and old paint. I used a wire brush and 80 grit sandpaper to finish the frame of my Yukon. I even used the Por-15 cleaner and metal etching product when I was done sanding. After doing half my frame this way I found out that I did too good of a job preparing the metal frame and the paint peeled up. After looking at many YouTube videos I found out that you have got to barely remove any rust (just the very loose stuff) and then extremely rough up the areas with no rust on it so it looks like the metal was dragged on asphalt. I had to peel, yes peel, off the first area of paint and rough the surface up even more. This seems to have worked so far and the paint is not peeling up. The instructions somewhat tell you to do this but I didn’t realize how much rust needed to be left on the metal and how bad you need to rough up the metal. The rust preventive paint goes on fairly well but the top coat is like painting with tar, it’s very thick. So the bottom line is that if you have the perfect, or should I say non-perfect, surface and you want to spend 5 times longer on the project then regular paint, then this is a great product. The paint looks like a hard glass surface and smooths out to hide brush strokes. I just wished I hadn’t spent so much time prepping the surface before painting. I could have saved many weeks by just lightly removing the flaking rust areas and using a chunk of asphalt to sand the remaining areas.

As far as the product POR-15 products are amazing. Applys very easily and self levels very well. Whether you roll , brush or spray it always turns out great. However my top coat arrived open in the box and leaking. I still give the product a 5 star.

Main thing was the that the part to pant did not have to be perfect to paint, just knock off the worst rust, clean, wipe down, and POR 15 it. O like the thickness, the sheen, and I feel it will be tough and hold up to the car's life.
