So big game changer for me. big - in that the display is waaaay easier to read then a traditional mercury thermometer. I hated fishing the old one out of pool, tilting in the light to get a guesstimate of the exact temp. This one has a digital display with fairly large font, display is tilted for easy peasy reading. Came partially charged (thx) and has had plenty of sun to keep charged.

This is a pretty straight-forward device. Do you have a pool or other body of water and want to know it's temperature in Fahrenheit or celsius? Does that body of water get consistent sunlight? If so, this does what it claims. The solar panel trick is neat. As a Vine reviewer I'm supposed to turn around reviews in a timely fashion, however I'll keep an eye on how well this keeps its charge. It currently resides in my parents pool as a gift, and they have a screen enclosure which acts as a very slight shade. So far so good, but I'll update this if the situation changes. In terms of accuracy, this does seem to be pretty good, I tested it with a known-accurate food thermometer that I also have and got almost exactly the same result. If I have any issues or concerns, it's that it seems to list to one side a bit. I think that's by design, however I'm not sure. When my little kids played with it a bit it was easy to end up titled all the way over. That's another thing I'll have to keep an eye on and update this review as appropriate, but as of July 2025 it's still working correctly. This is also very subjective, but I think it looks like an attractive device. Some attention was paid to design so that it doesn't just look like a cheap, utilitarian gadget.Whether the value is there or not I'd say depends on its competition, but it does what it claims and does so with accuracy.

My husband treats pool water like fine wine—it has to be just right. And by just right, I mean 80 degrees or warmer or he’s not getting in. No joke. So this little floating thermometer has become our official pool bouncer. Not only is it super cute bobbing around the water, but it’s also digital, easy to read, and solar-powered (because who has time for batteries anymore?). And let me tell you—when the sun goes down and this thing starts glowing? I thought the pool fairy had paid us a visit. Total bonus points for that surprise backlight. The 'easy to read' part of the review is most important! No guessing where the mercury lands. It even comes with a rope to keep it from floating off like it's got weekend plans. Accurate, sleek, waterproof, and now my husband can’t fake the temp anymore. If it says 79, he pouts. If it says 80, cannonball.Five stars from the poolside prince.

UPDATE:I am pleased to report that after two weeks in our Jacuzzi hot tub this thermometer has maintained its accuracy and has shown no signs of water leakage or fogging of the display. Because it is serving the purpose listed on the product page I am giving this product a revised five star rating.Below is the original review which is still relevant…This is the (3rd) Pool/Spa thermometer I have ordered from Vine so far to be used in our Jacuzzi Hot Tub.The first two products both failed miserably to fulfill this one simple task! The first product seemed to work well during the first week of use, but right around day #8 we started seeing FOG/Moisture buildup forming INSIDE the Solar Panel area but far more deal breaking was the gradual fogging over of the actual temperature display window! Within a few days, that display window was totally opaque and the display 100% unreadable!Needless to say, we went back and updated our Amazon product review to reflect these radical changes and lowered our score from the original (4) Stars down to (1) Star. The product is currently awaiting disposal when the time comes.Product #2 was a basic analog temperature gauge housed in a floating circular housing. No solar panel, no batteries, just a simple analog needle displaying the current water temperature of our Hot Tub's water. The only problem with this device was the fact that it was off by almost 4 degrees from the actual water temperature! Unfortunately, the designer of this product apparently didn't think it was important to include any way to CALIBRATE this analog gauge should the readings ever stray from reporting the correct water temperature. While I liked the simple design and appearance of this thermometer, the fact that it wasn't even close to being accurate was a total deal buster, and like product #1 it is currently awaiting disposal or donation when the time comes.So...Here we are at Hot Tub Thermometer #3! I just took it out of the box and placed it in our Jacuzzi and put the thermal cover back down. We keep our Spa covered when not in use because we live up in the mountains at 4500 feet and even in the summer, our overnight temps can dip down into the 40s.Since this product uses a rechargeable battery and solar panel with no alternative charging method provided, we will have to wait until daylight before the product begins charging and we can actually see and compare the unit's temp display and accuracy. Overall, I like this look of this product and the display window is located on the side of the floating chassis instead of pointing straight up at the sky like the other two. This should make it somewhat easier to read the display at a glance from the opposite end of our circular tub.Like the other two products... I will be returning to this product review in a week or two in order to update this review based on my actual real world experience actually using this product for its intended purpose.I have to say that I never expected this situation to prove so daunting when it comes to finding a Spa thermometer that actually performs the one singular function anyone would be expecting! The accurate reporting of the current water temperature of a swimming pool, or in our case a Jacuzzi Hot Tub! And it is not like these products are not designed and clearly advertised for use in the 104 degree water temperature of your typical hot tub, including our Jacuzzi JR-400.Stay Tuned!
