Long enough to get in your compost pile aways to see what's happening in there

Worked well for a couple months until the stem broke from the dial. Now it's useless.UPDATE - Seller responded soon after my review posted and quickly shipped a replacement. Thank you!

I use it for my compost bin and to check the soil temperature before planting in the spring.

This is my favorite compost thermometer, the colored guage takes the guesswork out of compost temp as its easy to see at a glance the status of your pile.

Working great for me. I have left it outside year round now. I notice that there is frost on the interior however that has been with Winter weather plus rainfall. YMMV. Using for a compost bin where it's exposed to the elements.

I bought this thermometer wanting a quarter inch stem as advertised, paying more for the quarter inch stem I was disappointed to see it was less than 3/16 of an inch. At only .180" it is 28% less than a quarter inch (.250") which I paid for. It looks nice, appears to be sturdy, reads the same as my other thermometer so I assume it's accurate. I will just have to handle it with care. The information sheet was amusing. One day shipping was great.3 days later-it's broken. I went out to check the temperature of my compost and the gauge face freely spun around no longer being attached to the stem. There is what looks like a hex nut on the back of the gauge and it is cracked no longer holding it together. So far a very disappointing purchase.

We just received and got a chance to test our new Cootway Compost Thermometer. It works great and as we build our composting experience know this will be an important tool to use. We are new to composting and didn’t realize there was so much to it. After research watching a YouTube video we found a link to the Cootway Compost Thermometer and glad we did. Our first lesson was learning composting isn’t just throwing food scraps into our dual composting bin. Now armed with better knowledge on how to layer, knowing where food scraps should be layered in and why, so the proper thermal activity can better speed up the process keeping pests away. We will be buying another Cootway Compost Thermometer soon as a backup and to use as our compost pile grows.

This thermometer looks nice but the one I got wasn't accurate. It reads 36° lower than 2 other thermometers I have. If it was only different from one I'd think my old one was off but I have 2 that read one temp and, side by side, this one reads 36° lower. It says it doesn't fog up or accumulate water inside the dial, it absolutely does. After one use, it was full of moisture. One of their selling points is that it has a 1/4" diameter stem, larger and better than competitors. The stem measures barely under 3/16. It's over a 1/16 smaller in diameter than they advertise. My pictures back up everything I said. It's not accurate, it does fog and hold moisture and it doesn't measure a 1/4".
