Ultimate Carbon Ink for Fountain Pens, Achieving the Deepest Black To meet the demand of deeper black ink, Platinum Pen has developed the ultimate carbon ink for fountain pens that achieves the deepest black yet. The ink also boasts exceptional water and light resistance, resulting in the unparalleled "Blackest Black" ink. ※When cleaning the pen nib after using Chou Kuro ink, use purified water available at pharmacies, etc. Avoid washing it with tap w ater as it reacts with minerals contained in the water and makes it diffi cult to remove the stains.

Bought this and the Jacques Herbin Perle Noire for a fountain pen. The Chou Kuro is much less viscous than the JHPN. The ink wetness allows the pen to write EVERY single time even after being out of use for a couple days, and the ink is BLACK on the paper. The JHPN is grey looking on paper and has a purple hue once you flush the chamber in your pen. Lastly, with this Chou Kuro, I barely have to touch the pen to paper to get fine precision lines, and the JHPN required a much heavier hand to prevent intermittent inkflow issues which resulted in only being able to write with much thicker lines. Worth every penny as it literally results in a better writing experience all around.

In all honestly not as dark or black as you would assume by watching the Goulet Pens video, but its definitely hard black black. I would recommend the TWSBI black over this if your on the fence. But this stuff is amazing.

NOT waterproof, I tried several papers and waited overnight even (which is ridiculous). What a disappointment, specially given that for the price of this bottle, you could get at least 2 bottles of the standard carbon ink which IS waterproof. It is going in the bin. Waste of money.

Most reviews of this ink seem to focus on just how black it is. They're correct. It's very, very black. And it's not just how dark it is. The look is different, too. Unlike many of my black inks which can still look glossy on certain papers, this one maintains a matte look, even on something like Tomoe River. It's just a wonderful effect that lends a certain gravitas to one's writing. What's mentioned less is just how incredibly well behaved this ink is. I've tried it on everything from Rhodia to Tomoe River to Clairefontaine Forever (a paper that I have extraordinary trouble with feathering on) to standard copy paper. I don't get any feathering, bleeding, etc. on any of it. I will say that I've only been using Extra Fine and Fine nibs with it but so far, it's just been a delight to write with. It's not quite as waterproof as something like Carbon Black but it's still what I would classify as water resistant. Enough so that I wouldn't have any qualms about signing important documents with it.If there's one downside, it's that the price is a bit high compared to many other blacks, some of which are close to matching the performance of Chou Kuro. Still, after only a week of using it, any memory of the expensive price have been forgotten and all that's left is a desire to write more and more with this wonderful ink. Very highly recommended.

Ink wetness and flow is good, love how really black the ink is!

Just - dang! I had no idea. You can live without it. But until you try a bottle, have you really lived? If you decide to get it - be prepared for some new pen hygiene rituals. I have to use distilled water. I put a couple drops in a glass of tap water ... stringy goo. So I now have a pen set aside that gets washed and flushed with distilled water, only.

I write down information that is frequently updated before meetings so there is a lot of correction tape usage as information is changed before the meetings. (On paper so that I have it in case things goes down and I have to do the meeting over a phone). So I needed something that is easily read and writes well on lined note paper as well as correction tape. I find that Carbon Chou Kuro works well and is appreciably darker than Platinum Carbon. I am writing my notes with a Pilot 912, Wavery nib ~ medium width. The bottle is excellent, but I keep the ink in 4oz needle tipped squeeze bottles for easily filling cartridges. And it survives water spills.

The ink is super dark, which is good. However, it is not waterproof. I don’t know what they meant by “water resistent” but I use it to sketch, and when applying shades with watercolor paint it smears like crazy.
