If you're making scale models, sooner or later you're going to want to make something look like it's been bolted together. That's where styrene hexagon rod comes in. You can get different sizes to look like different size bolts and nuts, glue them down and then paint them. Hardest part working with them is when you're cutting them, they tend to vanish into thin air. Never to be seen again. That's why you cut a LOT of them. Great product.

While working on a fortification project for my Warhammer 40K forces, I hit upon the idea for an Imperial building where every Imperial symbol had been desecrated by hammering "Hexagrammatic" pinions into everything. When I looked for a hexagon cross section rod, I found this plastruct product. It is exactly what I was looking for: a plastic rod that is compatible with the glue I use, that clearly has 6 sides that I can highlight with the paintjob. If I ever need more of this material, I know what I will search for first!

This is some pretty awesome .030-inch hexagonal rod. Glues up good with model cement. I cut this into some tiny bits and glued them onto a tank and then sanded them down to size in order to simulate tiny bolt heads. I never wanted to be that kind of model builder, but now here I am, shaking my head in disappointment at the dearth of detail on my AMX-13 drive sprockets and buying plastic rod in order to fabricate bolt heads in 1/35 scale. How did it come to this? Is this my life now? Where did I go wrong? My tank looks nice, though, so five stars for Plastruct hex rods.
