I used this to upgrade my bug zapper which had an old school inductive ballast and neon starter. I put the zapper on a photocell to only turn on at night so I wanted a solution that would last a long time even with cycling on and off every day. I think this ballast is the best option if you are illuminating the lamp(s) it is compatible with. It is program start which is the best type of fluorescent ballast. Unlike instant start, it takes a second or two to preheat the lamps before striking them, but also does not keep the filaments heated like a preheat ballast does. So if you want to make your lamp last as long as possible under any usage scenario, this is the best type of ballast to get.

I've been a professional handyman for 14 years. This was a perfect fit and easy replacement for a CFL recessed fixture, and better pricing here than my local electrical supply company. I would purchase this again.

This replaces the 42W ballast from my Blue Max craft lamp. The first OEM ballast failed and was replaced under warranty. The second failed out of warranty. Bad reliability led me to this Philips unit at 1/3 the cost of the Blue Max unit..This has push-in wire connectors and you really need to use #18 solid as instructed. Stranded won't work.Easy to install,

11.19.13. It works and is exactly like the one it replaced, only that one died. Removing the wires from the old one and inserting them into this one was simple once you figured out how the wire retainers worked. It has been performing well since installed.
