This product has saved my sanity and greatly enhanced our Golden Retriever’s quality of life! No more “Houdini acts” from our dog Boomer since installing this system.Setup- The instructions are clear and thorough. I was able to set the system up within two days, covering over an acre of land. The hardest part of the setup was twisting the wires back to the house for a neutral line, but once using a power drill, it went quickly. I did buy extra wire and flags. We have a tight space around part of our home, but also a wide open space that stops at the tree line/ natural yard and the A setting works perfectly. I buried all the wire close to the house but waited for falling leaves to cover the most of spots near the tree/ brush line.Training- I took 2 days to train but I continued the training up for 3 more days just to be sure our dog understood his space. He was definitely timid for a couple of weeks and cautiously explored his new parameters before he was able to 100% enjoy his free time/ roaming. We played with him in the larger spaces to make sure he understood he wouldn’t get a beep or shock for fetching a ball within the flagged area. I kept the flags up for about two to three months, slowly removing them once I was certain our pup was familiar with his boundaries. Golden Retrievers are notoriously one of the more difficult breeds to contain with these sorts of systems. From experience, even with being out in the yard with him constantly, if my attention wasn’t 100% on him, our Golden would dart away in a second to visit neighbors. He was determined to spread his sunny personality with everyone he could before getting outted or frantic calling to come home.Collar Battery- The collar stays charged for an extremely long period of time. Our Golden isn’t testing the boundaries regularly so there isn’t extra strain on the device. The most he needs is a beep to move back to his safe space.Full disclosure- We do not leave our Golden outside when we are away, even for a quick outing. He is able to be trusted while we are at home to do his business and a solo stroll around the property. We do have to keep an eye out for him still, mainly because he’s become a hole digger. We have neighboring dogs that come into his parameter and play, but he stays in his designated area regardless. We also have children that use our yard as a path between neighborhoods and he is a “good boy” whether they give him attention or not.Customer service-We purchased this unit 9/12/21 and the collar stopped turning on but was still charging. I contacted customer service, spoke with a lovely representative, and a new device free of charge is being sent in the next 3 to 5 days. I don’t even think he will notice but for now he has a remote training collar on for a “just in case.”

Was supposed to take two weeks of training for your dog; before the second day of training was completed, my puppy refused to cross the boundary line. Quick learner of a great product. My dog doesn’t want to go near the boundary line. Much cheaper and easier to install than a wooden or chain link fence. Collar doesn’t even need to be worn at all times...the boundary is now known...but good to know it works.

I just love my petsafe Yardmax system. I love the fact that I can let my dog play outside with the kids without being constantly watching if he's going on my neighbor's half grass (we live in a semi-detached house). It took so little time to train our dog and we now only put him his collar every once in a while. The only con would be that since we installed it 4 months ago the collar started to shock our dog twice for absolutely nothing (dog was inside the house).

In general, I found this easy to install, and easier to use. My dog learned real fast and he hasn't run out of the yard yet. This system is the DIY consumer version of the professional-grade and dealer installed "Invisible Fence" brand which is owned by the same company. So essentially what you get is a professional grade fence with the same features for Do-It-Yourselfers.First the installation:I have to admit I was a bit intimidated thinking about the install of this fence, but it turned out to be much easier than I had expected. I used a power edger attachment for my trimmer to dig the "trench" which really only needs to be a 2" deep slit in the ground. (Great excuse to buy one if you don't have one already). Then the included wire just gets put in the trench. I carefully pushed it in using a small piece of wood and then you close up the trench by giving the sod a few good kicks. A few weeks later and you can't even see it. I have seen recommendations to use a shovel but I think for most people this would be extremely time consuming. The method I used worked great and you can rent the equipment if necessary. The driveway was just as easy. I used a masonry blade on my skill saw and put the wire in the trench and then used some driveway caulk to fill it in. The cheap blades work fine and cost about $15 at any hardware store. Took about 10 minutes to cut through about 30 feet.To make the connection wire I looped a length of wire about ten feet longer than I needed and then used my drill to twist the wire. The way the system works is that twisted wire does not put out a signal so in most cases you will need this for where it connects into your house. All in all, the install took about 3 hours. If I had to fault this system for anything it's the length of wire included. I really could have used another 100' to cover my half acre lot and had to buy more from the hardware store. The operation and features:The operation of the system is equally easy. It operates in Yard Max or Traditional mode. The main difference between the two setting is that the dog collar will start to give a correction after you cross the wire in Yard Max mode while in Traditional it starts to give corrections when you get within 5-10' of the wire depending on your set signal strength.I personally prefer to use Yard Max - it's easy and maximizes your yard space. It also has a feature where the collar will give corrections for a full 15 seconds if the wire is crossed leaving the yard but does not give a correction when reentering the yard. The collar on this system is rechargeable - and the charge lasts a long time. I did not need to recharge for over a month which makes this real convenient. The collar also works with other PetSafe barrier products. I have a small one to keep the dog off the counter and it was a huge bonus to have this collar work with it right out of the box - no configuration needed.Bottom Line - this is a great product and I highly recommend it.
