When I purchased a new kayak this year I needed something to move it from the house to the water and I decided to go with the pelican universal carrier kit as it was an inexpensive solution. It does work ok but it does not come with enough straps in my view for confidently securing the kayak to my roof. I ended up getting additional straps from Princess auto so that I had 2 straps securing the foam and 2 straps securing the kayak. I also ordered this with the Pelican hood tie down loops for securing the bow and stern lines. The kit works well with the additional straps but I really only recommend this setup if you are:1) On an extremely tight budget; or2) You are only transporting your kayaks once or twice per season, for example moving them to and from your cottage in spring or fall.Overall, the kit works ok but if you have the money I would spend the extra on the Pelican 'deluxe' Kayak transport kit which includes the metal bars that run through the foam blocks. I upgraded to the 'deluxe' kit within a month and I wished I had gone that route in the first place. The kayak feels much more secure on my car's roof and I can leave the carrier on the car while I am out paddling which saves a lot of time.

Easy enough for me to figure out but it was bought for my 18 year old daughter. Product works fine, but recommend putting installation instructions beyond “don’t put the know on top of the buckle” for those that would feel better seeing them.

Using a wider pelican fishing kayak. The pads need to be 2 inches longer. I have a Hyundai sonata with a fin antenna in the center back of the roof so kayak is top down. You'd think pelican would make a product that fits their product. Also it should have included two more straps for the foam, there is an obvious channel for them but not included. This would iliminate slippage. It will work but. Eh.

Definitely worth the money. Can now take my kayak on my car with an investment of only 40 bucks. Even brought it across province and on dirt roads. It’s great

I have these attached to my truck bed rack and they do an excellent job of holding my Stellar S16 G2 securely attached. Hold is solid with no rocking, swaying or slipping. I use two ratchet tie down ropes over the mounts onto the bed rack instead of the included straps.

Big kayaker, use it weekly during summer great and easy way to haul my kayaks. Had it for 10 yrs, eventually wore out, bought a new replacement one, better and cheaper then more expensive kayak racks gear. No worries if will fail, used on highways no issues 👍

We purchased these in order to transport one kayak. We purchased J-hooks once we purchased a second kayak. They are easy to install and the quality of the material is excellent. The foam is solid but flexible enough to conform a bight to the shape of the kayak or canoe.

Have only used on a dry roof top so far, and it worked good then. Be careful when you crank down on the straps. I bent my hull, and it took some work to get that fixed. Not for long distances, but for short distances I think this works fine.

I assembled this product fairly easily, but I chose to replace the straps with more reliable cinching straps after the first 10 minutes of the drive. The straps that come with the product just don't feel sturdy enough for highway use, I couldn't get them tight enough to feel comfortable. The foam blocks are great. My kayak didn't budge while I did 100km/hr in my car on the highway for about 30 mins each way but again, I did replace the straps.**Photo is of the original product only, prior to the replacement of the straps.

My car is not equipped with a roof rack so this kit is perfect when I want to travel with my kayak. It's not perfect... on one occasion, one of the pad flipped on it's side and I don't love the claw clamp mechanism used for tightening the straps so I use my own crank straps. However, this is a fantastic kit regardless... it's definitely worth the price and it has worked great for me.

I genuinely tried to love this product, but after nearly losing my paddleboards on the highway I decided it was well worth the splurge for a roof rack and ratchet ties.First use took about 40 minutes to load and tie down a single board. I anticipated it would take a bit longer while I became acclimated, but definitely not that long. Ultimately the tie downs were extremely difficult to tighten. When I finally felt confident in the security of the board on the car (no slack in lines, etc.) and left, the boards seemed to be moving quite a bit which caused me to stop (very nervously) 4x to check them throughout my 35 minute drive. Same situation on the way home. After about a dozen uses I got the tie down process down to about 15-20 minutes, but by that point the hardware from the hooks had scratched my car quite a bit a few times when attempting to tighten the straps and I was just over it.While I understand the appeal for a safe and more cost effective alternative to a roof rack, the time consumed for each load and wear and tear on my vehicle wasn't worth the savings to me (especially after nearly losing the board).
