I successfully installed the expansion, no problems there, very cool setup these folks send you in a clean package. I actually had fun installing my SSD (which was a Samsung 990 Pro 4TB) which makes this review feel regrettable at the very onset but I have a due diligence for honesty. My motherboard is a TUFZ790, I had the available PCIe slot so I decided to go for the additional storage. I have seen a few people having simply solved issues around the SSD but none quite as stark as my own unless using a PCIe expansion. Some worked, others did not. I was able to get physical evidence of proper installation as evidenced by the green light displayed by the expansion (great addition there), and the drive would display in windows disk manager, but when attempting to allocate anew or format in any means it would simply not read or end in error, I attempted many solutions including updating bios, running ahci, and managing storage to split a pool (the drive showed up here but could not be specified as a path) to no avail. When detecting new hardware in device manager the SSD simply vanished. When placed in an individual external the SSD functions fine. I have to conclude this product is defective (as cool as it looks and as fun as it is to build). I could not get in touch with the seller so unfortunately if this review is not responded to in a few days I will have to request a refund. Very disappointing.

Bought this product to connect a M.2 SSD drive, the drive was working fine with another computer, I wanted to add a heat sink to my drive but when I added my drive to this card it failed to be detected by my computer. I put my M.2 SSD drive back into the M.2 slot, I'm retuning this product.

It really should be hard to get this type of device wrong, but it seems somehow these folks have managed to do just that.I put a 2TB SAMSUNG 990 PRO SSD w/ Heatsink onto this carrier and plugged it into a PCIe 5 x 8 slot (obviously using only 4 lanes of that slot). The drive had previously been working in another machine, in a slot on the system board.Rebooting, the drive showed-up and appeared to work... until it didn't. Putting any I/O load at ALL on the drive resulted in system crashes with WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR -- Examining the crash dump, the problem was a PCIe bus error. This happened multiple times, until I pulled the card and attached the NVMe drive via a much less than optimal USB 3.2 connection. Connected via the USB connection, the drive tested fine.So... not good.

Downside is that it takes up a PCIe slot. I currently am running with an Alienware Aurora R12 and it only has two PCIe slots available. This device takes up one but I could careless. This was simple to install with the Gen5 SSD, I used the SAMSUNG 990 EVO SSD 1TB, PCIe Gen 4x4, Gen 5x2 M.2 2280 NVMe and it works just fine. I've had zero issues since installing and that's probably because I only use it to store my Steam games on it. Now if you want more specifics I am not your guy. It's easy to install and use.
