I do all of my suspension work and it was worth buying my own compression tool. I recommend it.

Had to do a shock on my Outback. I've always done shocks in pairs, so at the minimum this was going to get two uses. My other half also drives a Subie, so likely will have to do some on that at some point. I looked at the options, and let's face it, there are cheaper sets available. That said, I've always had excellent service with OTC tools, and plenty of not so good service from the unending parade of no-name imports. Keep in mind, if you're doing shocks like this is made for, you're dealing with a lot of stored energy in that spring. I know I didn't want a bargain basement tool failing under those conditions. So I ponied up, and got these. They came in a case that will store them nicely. Without a case, these would be annoying to store. I did watch a Youtube video on the process, so after that, the job was pretty simple. The clamps grab on the spring coils reasonably well, and have the safety pins so they stay in place. I did not use an impact wrench on them, just regular sockets, and drive handles. Did the job with no issues.I was surprised a bit to find one of them was slightly bent when I was done. I'm guessing I ran in one side more than the other to cause that, but I was surprised the screws aren't hard enough to handle that. That will certainly not change how I use them, and if I needed another set for some reason, I'd be right back, looking for OTC.Overall, money well spent.

Removing front struts from a BMW X5 (E70) requires compressing the springs while it is still in the wheel well, just to get the bottom of the strut out of the wishbone holder. I used it for this yesterday and it was nice. A little more compact for tight spaces than my similar 1990''s coil spring compressors. The sliding tabs are nice. The caged ball bearings inside the thrust washers is a very nice feature! I greased mine and effort was quite low.OTC never disappoints.

There are a million and a half companies selling this type of spring compressor…bought these because I’ve had good experiences with OTC tools in the past. I’ve used and older version of these that my buddy had and we never had any issues with them. They haven’t changed much if at all…maybe a different washer set up? Ordered these May of 2022 and they came with a case and are made in Taiwan. My other OTC tools are US made but in this case I’m ok with it…I’m not aware of any US manufacturers making this tool and I did look around. These cost more than some of the cheapest ones out there but I trust OTCs quality over a Chinese generic brand. These are under a lot of pressure and I’ve seen rental units bend.

Well made but not beefy enough to do a truck strut.

I buy lots of OTC tools, they are great. here is why.1. the kits are always clean and well put together. they have what you need in the kit.2. there a quality product for a great price. many or the tool trucks sell re branded OTC items.3. I can get them off Amazon Prime. LOVE IT.4. They come in great plastic cases. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! but not this one.Im really upset, had I of known I would of gone es were and gotten a one in a case. I take good car of my tools, and while the cases take up lots of room I dont like to have stuff floating around. the tools are to $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ to just let sit in a drawer.

3 stars because one of the screws are bent. Not sure if it came that way or if it happened during use, either way, I'm a bit disappointed. That being said it did work wonderfully. I would recommend for home use, but not so much for shop use like they advertise. Besides a shop should have a wall spring compressor anyways.Be sure to have the spring pointed away from you, grease the screws, and (while I did, which maybe why it bent), don't use power tools else you'll shorten the life of the tool.
