I love this stuff! Yes, it comes with detailed instructions but I played around with it until it worked. I put most of my houseplant collection on the wick system. I'm a bottom waterer, so this stuff was great for me. Reasonably priced and a good amount.

The product description in the pictures say that their products are only polyester because cotton is bad, but they are selling cotton wicks? Lol what? Or am i just missing something?

This worked really well for my indoor house plant when I was away for three weeks. It’s quite absorbent and worked well despite me forgetting to wet the entire thread before planning it in the soil.

We have a small, summer cottage about an hour or so from our home. I had unexpected surgery this summer and couldn't get to the cottage to water plants I'd already purchased and potted. As in most of our country, the weather in the Mid-Atlantic has been relentlessly hot. Here, in Maryland, we haven't had much rain, either. So, I could just picture my pretty, potted flowering plants keeling over. I ordered some of the globe shaped automatic watering devices, but those have to be filled on a regular basis to work. Then I found this wicking cord here, on Amazon, and decided to give this system a try. Results: according to a neighbor, who lives near the cottage, my flowers are still upright and flowering beautifully. YEA! (I didn't purchase this cording first, because liter bottles would not have held enough water and critters would probably have knocked them over, anyway.) As a last resort, I ordered this cord anyway (inexpensive experiment) then sent my husband down to the cottage to figure out how we could make this watering system work. He found some old, plastic water "cans" in our shed. Problem solved! We're recycling those slightly faded and dented cans to hold a whole gallon of reserve water and as an extra plus - they add some "whimsy" around the cottage!

I used this rope to water a super needy plant while away for 2 months. Worked really great! It was my first time trying it but really easy. Had to get the rope through the soil and then tie a knot out the bottom side. The rope went into a 3 gallon water jug. In hindsight that was a bit excessive it barely used maybe a gallon (per plant). In a very warm sunny room, I placed a container under the plant to catch water not knowing how fast it works, but very little water was contained and soil stayed wet but not too soggy. I'm not a scientist but this little experiment worked based on a very happy plant!!

The wick is alright, but I was the most impressed by the detailed booklet with various tips on how to organize self-watering systems.

Used this clever stuff to water several orchids and a few large houseplants. Followed the instructions, with the orchids being fed from underneath via cut down mineral water bottles so they weren’t sitting in a pool of water. Went away for over three weeks and returned to very healthy plants. Excellent value.
