Even though the new solenoid looks different without the exposed plunger and spring, it still works on my older WaterMaster valves.

Replaced my irritol inground sprinkler with this one from orbit. Worked great. Note it is a little noisier

Echoing TS's review."Many are complaining about this version not working on older valves. If the O ring used with the old metal plunger solenoid is left in place the valve will not shut off. Remove it and the new solenoid will work as expected."I followed TS's advice and was able to use this to replace the discontinued solenoid for Orbit 57223 sprinkler valve. Just remove the old O ring and new solenoid fits without leaking, shuts off just fine.

This solenoid replaces the old Orbit solenoid. The old solenoid is no longer available. This new solenoid WILL NOT WORK WITH THE OLD ORBIT VALVE! See attached, it clearly explains the problem!

I bought a 5 pack of this model solenoid based upon Google search which led me to the statement “It is universal and interchangeable with most brands of 24-volt solenoid sprinkler valves. If you need to fix sprinkler valve problems due to the solenoid, this is the Orbit sprinkler valve part for you.” My valves are Weathermatic Silver Bullet model. This solenoid definitely does not work with Weathermatic valves! (For those who have the older model Weathermatic Silver Bullet valves which use the now discontinued M24E solenoid, the proper replacement is the Weathermatic S20P solenoid.)
