About this item

  • This right angle grinder compatible stripping disc is an ideal choice for a variety of uses including stripping coatings and removing rust and parting lines
  • This non-woven depressed center disc with coarse grit is appropriate for use on soft carbon steels, cast iron, concrete, aluminum and other softer surfaces
  • Made from aluminum oxide to ensure longevity, this disc features an open-web construction that reduces loading, a great alternative to wire brushes
  • This wheel is designed with an advanced resin bond that prevents shedding, snagging, gouging, and rework. This design works well with a variety of machines, horsepower and operations up to 12000 RPM
  • Wheel Type is 27 with a 4 1/2 inch diameter. Dimensions: 4-1/2 x 5/8 - 11 Inches.

The Norton Non-Woven Rapid Strip depressed-center wire wheel brush attaches to random orbit and rotary sanders to remove paint, rust, coatings, light edge burrs, parting lines, and flashing. The semi-flexible open web design resists loading and allows the wheel to conform to edges, contours, and uneven surfaces without gouging. The coarse abrasive is uniformly distributed and bonded throughout the wheel to provide consistent performance. The aggressive free-cutting action helps avoid smearing on the workpiece. The wheel mounts using the depressed-center 5/8"-11 threaded arbor hub.

Rotary action abrasive wheels and wire brushes attach provide aggressive free-cutting action for stripping, cleaning, and light burr removal on wood, plastic, masonry, fiberglass, and metal. The standard fastening type is an arbor hole in the center of the brush or wheel.

Norton Abrasives manufactures sanding, grinding, and polishing abrasives. The company, founded in 1885, meets International Organization for Standardization (ISO) standards 9000 and 14001 for quality and environmental management.

Be advised that it's described as a pack of 5. I recieved only one, and bizarrely, the pack of one was even labeled "pack of 5. "I applied for a refund but having to drop it off at UPS is 30 minutes of my life spent.

I had been stripping paint off of aluminum plate with a chemical paint stripper - coat after coat with mixed results. Then I tried this Norton wheel on my 4" angle grinder. My goodness, what a marvelous tool. All the remaining paint was cleaned off with no great effort and the soft aluminum plate was left in a highly polished state with no metal erosion. Marvelous!

Used to clear mill-scale off mild steel... one disc lasted about 2 sqft and it was toast. Worked great for the bit that it did though!

Aggressive and effective! After scraping off 50+ year old roof sealant from a vintage trailer with a putty knife in 95 degree heat I decided to order a 3m disc for my angle grinder. When I got it from Amazon, I realized it not only needed an adapter for the back but also another for the threads... no way was I spending 30$ just to use a disc. I found this and am really impressed with its functionality as well as it not needing adapters. It cuts into aluminum if you apply too much pressure or spend too much time in one area, but it is fast and effective at removing all the incredibly strong, cement like bonding agents

these things are pretty damn good. They don't have the life that i was expecting. I bought 1 to remove the paint from 3 old aluminum stadium seats i have in my backyard. And 1 lasted just enough to do one seat. They work very quickly but you really should wear long sleeves and pants becuase chunk of the disc will fly off at a high rate of speed and they can sting pretty good. And of course wear eye protection, maybe even a full face shield. When i would try to sand the rivets on the seats a piece or 2 would always fly off, and i was wearing shorts and it gave me a couple little welts. All in all it worked great, but i need to buy at least 2 more for the other 2 seats.

Of the paint stripping wheels I've used, this version from Norton is the best, by far. This does the job and outlasts the others brands I've tried. That said, it's a costly way to do business. What I've discovered is it works much better to get a Diablo backing pad and use 24 grit Diablo grinding discs to get the job done. The Diablo griding discs cost a fraction of what these paint stripper discs cost and far outlast the stripper discs by a long, long, long time. (you can use either 4 1/2" or 5" pads and discs on your 4 1/2" grinder). It's a dusty endeavor, so keep that in mind. Also, care must be used if using a grinding disc (more care than is needed if using stripping discs), as you can gouge woodwork easily if not careful, if you are exhausted, etc.

I've used about a dozen of these on an auto restoration project, removing rust from sheet metal. They really work well and outlast other similar abrasive wheels I tried, lasting several times as long. Even so, they do seem to wear out faster than I'd like. I think they last longer if you back off on how much pressure you apply.I've found them locally at Sears. Some people call them "rice cake" wheels, by the way.

I started using these pads when the local Home Depot carried them. Some of the things I use them for are planing wood, cleaning up spills on concrete, removing the scale from swimming pool water-line tile, stripping paint or cleaning something up. I even use this pad to clean up my scrapers and drywall knives. I have tried using look-alike pads such as "Gator" brand with very poor results. These pads are a bit pricey, but they hold up for the duration of the job where the others fall apart quick. I use this pad so much that I have a dedicated grinder that it just stays on for quick use.
