Your cart is empty.This proof and tralle hydrometer measures the alcohol content of distilled alcohol or spirits with a specific gravity less than 1.000. The tralle scale has a range of 0-100 and measures the actual alcohol percentage. The proof scale has a range of 0-200 and measures the proof of the spirits or distilled alcohol. The hydrometer is calibrated to give an accurate reading when the liquid is at 60F (15.6C). to use the hydrometer, fill a Test jar with the sample. You can use the tube that the hydrometer comes with or purchase a Test jar separately. Place the hydrometer in the liquid making sure that it is completely suspended and not touching the sides of the Test jar. Take the reading on the scale at the surface of the liquid. This hydrometer is only designed to provide a general indication of alcohol content. A more precise measurement requires the use of specialized equipment. This hydrometer is also designed to only Test 'Pure' distilled spirits such as whiskey and vodka. It is not designed to be used with liquors that have high concentrations of sugar or other ingredients such as rum, kahlua, jagermeister, cordials and liqueurs.

Just drop it in the bottle and read the number.I tested it in several 80 proof bottles and it read perfectly on the 80 line. Tried it on some higher proof bottles and it read exactly as the bottle indicated.The only set back is the size. It's a little long (which it needs to be for big bottles). For 750 ml bottles and 1.75 liter bottles it's perfect (given the bottle is full). For smaller amounts or smaller bottles you'll need something like a large test tube (maybe 1" x 12").

I needed help proofing down my moonshine (grain alcohol) and juices.I did add some cushioning to the end of the storage container to protect the glass. The packaging came well padded. I did use a plastic measuring tube that came with my beer and wine hydrometer.

I can't understand why anyone would have trouble using this. Granted, if you received the wrong item or it was broken then perhaps you could complain. Unlike a hydrometer made for beer & wine this one requires little to no math and keeping track of OG,SG and FG. Just place it in your finished product and adjust a bit for room temperature. I tested mine on store bought liquors and the readings were very accurate. Will buy another should anything happen to this one.

Replaced one that broke after roughly a year, bought from same company. The bottom is now more durable through changed design that thickened the glass from paper thin to a visible bump. Same price!! they also improved their product by including a small paper temperature conversion chart and quality packaging (where shipping glass should always be seen as a priority). Now writing more reviews, since I find myself not remotely satisfied with this ultra simple, cheap codependent, enabling relationship with amazon!?

Es un equipo sencillo pero funcional, solo mide nivel de alcohol en el líquido, en el paquete viene el medidor y su empaque de plástico, no viene una probeta grande para poner el liquido a evaluar, solo es el medidor y su protector

It appears to work. But since it's not really what I thought it was I'll be ordering a different one & will compare readings from the 2. Some say inaccurate readings some say it's all good without being able to verify I can't say if it is or isn't. The case it comes in won't work for you as a test jar if you're planning on Testing higher proof stuff. Initial thoughts are since the description wasn't entirely accurate I must question the readings also. I'll keep it & compare to a different one. If they match then I'll use it somewhere (possibly in a large pot or jug where I wouldn't need a test jar) otherwise it'll end up in the trash.... Had I known these issues I likely wouldn't have ordered it...

Works just fine. In a few reviews I've read people ask for instructions. If you don't know how to use a hydrometer then you have no business making the stuff it's used to measure. Exactly how complicated can floating a glass tube in alcohol and reading the number at the surface??? Not exactly rocket science people.
