My husband uses these when hiking and camping. He says they work great. Very easy to light. You get plenty in the package. Great price also!

Finally went backpacking to test them. After reading the instructions about loosening the fibers, I used 2, so a total of 4 halves, to start the fire and it worked great. I put them into kindling I had built which was a little awkward to light due to my fire starting stick, next time I'll light them then drop them into the kindling.I'd recommend them, they are light weight & burn well.

This is perhaps the best fire starter medium I have ever used. I was able to light it using a ferrocerium rod and striker. I had cut a plug in half before testing and it burned hot and consistently for just over 3 minutes.I wanted to test if it would actually work when wet so I soaked the other half of the plug in water for over an hour. It floated the entire time ( a nice bonus if you were to drop it into a lake or stream). It was very wet when i took it out of the water so I fluffed it out exposing some of the individual strands. Using the ferrocerium rod I tried multiply time to ignite the plug. It would spark and try to start but quickly sputter out. I fluffed it open just a bit more and tried again and it immediately ignited and started burring. This half also lasted 3 minutes. So the trick is to make sure you really fluff up the plug, especially when it is wet.The plugs smell nice with a faint almost sweet scent and come in a sturdy resealable pouch. I have put several of the plugs in each of my fire starting kits and can heartily recommend this product. (Full disclosure. I cannot verify the claims of nontoxicity as I did not actually consume any plugs)

I am impressed with these fire plugs! To put it to the test i fluffed it up then placed one on a slab of ice and allowed it a few minutes to sit and get wet. It was also a windy day but despite the elements I got a flame after 2 strikes from a small ferro rod. The product burned well with an impressive flame. I timed the plug and it lasted easily for 8 minutes alone. Since they are so compact and light I keep them in my vehicle, go bag, and even a couple in the brim of my hat. I should also add that they don't leave any oily stains on materials. I will be purchasing more.

These things work great. I recommend using half of one to conserve as half does just fine. I have tried 2 so far and literally 2 or less strikes on my ferro rode to get them to ignite. Burn time is around 3-5 minutes which is plenty of time to light damp twigs to start a fire. Will be buying these again

My husband wanted this for his hunting pack. He did give one a try and it does what it’s supposed too. Works great

I love how easy it is to start a fire with these. They are fool proof.

I bought these to add as a 2nd source of lighting to my little fire bag i keep all my fire starting stuff in for camping. It might be me but i haven’t found these to be very good. I have followed the directions but find them difficult to light compared to other sources. To get them to puff up to light you twist the ends opposite to “ruffle” the middle. However of you twist too much back and forth they break in the middle. Again, might be me but ill keep practicing since i still have a bag to use up.

These are lighter and more compact than bulky sawdust-and-wax style firestarters, they're extremely easy to use and I like how water resistant they are. They're soaked with some type of petroleum/wax helper which helps with that and also makes them very reliable when starting fires. That's the good. But that same agent makes them much heavier than options like tinder-quik and similar dry-treated-cotton style tabs. Those weigh 0.2g apiece, while each of these was 2.4g. A few grams doesn't sound like a lot, and it's not if you're just planning short trips. But if you're backpacking in ultra-light mode, that does add up.Note that in the water tests the company shows in their videos, the plugs are still compacted as they would come out of the bag. If you expand/rough them up the way you would use them in real life, they do soak up water and need time to dry out before they will light again. In my opinion being waterproof isn't that big a selling point. If you're counting on your fire-lighters as a safety item, it's pretty insane not to keep them in a baggie so they never get wet. That said, these tabs are easily big enough to start two fires apiece, so it's worth knowing that the leftover half might not be as waterproof as the rest.Personally, I actually like these best for non-hiking/backpacking uses. They do exactly the same job as the wood-and-wax chunks other vendor make but don't drop sawdust in your drawer or storage bin, and are much more compact.

It takes a few seconds before it starts burning with a Bic lighter. These fire sticks are only good for a fireplace or camp fire. For out in the bush and get a fire going fastThis product is useless. It also produces a lot of soot
