Replaced a few month old Arris surfboard modem/router. This was so easy to set up, it recognized my devices: phones, TV's, phone and didn't require inputting their individual MAC addresses to allow them to communicate past the router. The TV's in this respect was what the old unit couldn't do without a bunch of work, or never did. My wife's TV couldn't get to amazon videos on the old one, but this modem/router had it back in action without any configuration work on my end. Great. The Arris modem/router also was very challenging getting/keeping the wireless connection to my laptop. I eventually ran a hardwire as I was troubleshooting for about a month with my service provider and my own time/work. It should have been simple, put in the password and go. It wasn't. NOW, with the Netgear modem/router, it is that simple. Every device connected the first time. There's lots of happiness in the house with everyone's devices connected again. After all of my devices were up and running- I went into the setup for the modem/router setup, this is where you type in the IP address 192..... and configure the unit. The interface looked good and was organized so I could find what I was looking for. I was expecting that I could input the MAC addresses for all of my devices and what I found is that they were already discovered and on a list ! So I edited the list and renamed them what we would call them, helpful for me but not even necessary. All that I really needed to do, was call the provider, turn on the unit and everything was running like I wanted. I'm so confused about the experience between the two manufacturers being so completely different and that my in depth computer and network skills couldn't fix the problems on the old one, but the Netgear modem/router worked perfectly.Hands down, the Netgear unit works, doesn't have household hardwired, or wireless network issues and the setup was so simple. I would definitely buy more Netgear products when this needs replacement.

I've been using the N600 for about a year now I believe. I was using the modem/routers the internet company was giving me and was frustrated that they didn't work very well and almost never gave me the speed I was paying for. Sick of renting I went and bought my own. The N600 is a dual-band router offering the regular band of internet and the 5GH band. This has been rather nifty as not many people in my neighborhood are on the 5gh band, and therefore, it's less congested. In case you aren't sure, not all devices can use the 5GH band you have to have a device with an AC wireless network card. Luckily for me that includes both my phone and laptop. For the most part, this router works great and I don't have very many issues but sometimes when I do have an issue it's very frustrating. As I said before the 5GH band is much less congested and usually offers me much higher speeds. The problem though is that sometimes the router seems to turn the 5GH band off randomly. One minute I will be using it just fine then the next none of my devices can find the 5GH band. Sometimes this fixes itself in just a few minutes and other times I have to reset the router. This does get ok signal I was hoping for a little better as our house is about 3200 square feet. You can get signal most everywhere downstairs but upstairs it's very spotty and my wife's desktop up there is rarely used because the internet can be so slow so we will need a range extender. One interesting thing though is that the 5GH band seems to reach father upstairs than the normal band. This is actually rather counterintuitive as the 5GH band usually sends out faster internet speeds but less range, though in our house it seems it also has better range. If my wife's desktop had a better wireless card we could use the 5gh band but unfortunately not so and thus we can't really use it without buying something extra. I did give this four stars though because overall it's one of the best routers I have owned and none of the other routers we had would reach upstairs to her computer either. So in summary, it's really a great router and it was worth the cost. I would recommend it to others but if you have a large 2 story home you may need to invest in a range extender.

I bought this modem to replace my combo of a Motorola cable modem from my cable company and a Linksys router that I've had for many years. I've had periodic outages , mainly with the router, that caused me to have to unplug/replug it in to reset it. Both were well over 5 years old, and due for replacement. I have a friend, who is also my tech, that I ran this "combo" modem/router idea by, and he told me it was a good system and the way that most were going, so I bought it. QUICK delivery! My tech came by, and the only problem we experienced was that despite the label saying it is compatible with my particular cable company, when we went through the automatic setup system, this specific modem was not listed, but as soon as it was plugged in, my tech was able to "ping" the cable company, so we knew it would work. Just a matter of getting the right cable company tech on the line (second level, not the first), and it was quickly fixed. In fact, the cable guy told us he had the same modem and most people are now moving to the combo system. We set my system up to work either with the 2.4 or the 5.8 GHz, and it works extremely well. Yes, I can see a half dozen other systems in my neighborhood, but no interference problems. We have two Ipads, two cellphones, a laptop, Chromecast, an Xbox and a satellite connection. All were extremely easy to set up (didn't need the tech, beyond my initial install, and probably wouldn't have needed him for that, except I didn't want to mess around) and arte working noticeably better and faster. Highly recommended.
