Followed recommendation from other reviews. The trombone one works perfect for my daughters new Balu straight mute.

Too small for the mute my son uses in his school band. Had to return.

Great protection for my french horn mute. Better fit than french horn mute case.

Following other reviews, I bought this case not for a trombone mute, but rather for a professional-grade French Horn mute. The French Horn version of this case would have been too small; it's meant for practice & practice-size mutes (e.g. Humes & Berg non-tuneable horn mute, etc.) and not for Balu mutes. So again, a great case for a horn mute.

This mute case is made very well. I just received it today in the mail, but I can see that based on its construction, it will last a long time.About the fitting though, this case WILL NOT cover the bottom of the mute. The drawstrings (which are very well protected underneath the neoprene stitching) go over the bottom edge of the mute, but a significant part of the bottom part of the mute is left open. However, since the drawstrings are well made, I have trust in this product that it will not let the mute fall out during transport anytime soon.In case people are wondering if their trombone mute will fit in this case, I'll tell you what my experience with trying to fit different mutes in it was like for me today. A Jo-Ral Straight Mute fits well in it. The Dennis Wick Straight Mute and black Dennis Wick Practice Mute also fit well in it (the Dennis Wick mutes fit a little better than the Jo-Ral mutes because the are slighter shorter). My Humes and Berg Mel-O-Wah Mute fits great in this case too. And the best mute that I found fits in this case, and actually completely covers the bottom is my Shastock Practice Mute (because it is the shortest mute I have). My Pixie Mute does fit in this case, but because it is so narrow, the drawstrings can't close to make such a small closing; if you try hard enough, you can pull the drawstrings enough to have the Pixie Mute not fall out of the bottom of the case, but it's too much trouble. My Jo-Ral Bubble Wow-Wow Mute can also fit in this case, but even with the drawstrings closed tight, the stem is left out in the open, and if your stem is just a little loose, then it can fall out.My Harmon Wow-Wow does not fit in this case because it is too wide at the bottom. And even if it was narrow enough to fit inside, the stem would be left in the open too. My Jo-Ral Bucket Mute is also too wide to fit in this case. Also, my Humes and Berg Solotone/Cleartone Mute can fit inside this case, but since it is significantly taller than normal mutes, and because there's no place for the drawstrings to "hug" near the bottom like with the other straight mutes I mentioned, there is no way to use this cover with this mute without it falling out of the bottom. Also, ANY CUP MUTE WILL NOT FIT THIS CASE!!! It looks like it was only meant for straight mutes. If you have the adjustable cup mutes, you could take the cup section off and fit the straight part, but then you have to carry the cup part somewhere else.It also looks like this case was meant for tenor mutes, but like another reviewer pointed out, my Bass Jo-Ral Straight Mute can fit in this, as long as I just stretch it enough to fit the drawstrings over the bottom edge of the mute. The last thing I have to say about this case is that the hook and 2 velcro clasps are pretty nifty where you can clasp the mute to your bone case handle. However, I am always using more than one mute at a time in different settings (symphonic, big band, etc.), which is why I have mute bags for both my tenor and bass mutes. Personally, I wouldn't want my mute to be hanging by my bone case handle; I got this mute case so my mutes won't clank against each other in my mute bags during transport. I could see a bone player attaching this mute case to his/her case handle if they only need 1 straight mute for a rehearsal/gig, but even though the drawstrings are durable, everything has its time, and the drawstrings might break down eventually, and since this case does not cover the entire bottom of the mute, the mute might fall out. I suggest using this mute case as a supplement to your mutes INSIDE your mute bag.

Neotech doesn't make a separate bass trombone version of this case (I wish they did), but a friend of mine had one for his bass trombone straight mute and was able to get his inside. You have to stretch it a little bit, but the material has held up well and it looks like I'll be using this case for a long time. Great so I don't have to lug my larger mute bag to gigs.

I bought this as a gift for a fellow horn player who upgraded to a screw bell, thus losing a place to store his mute in the case. This has worked well for him. He just clips it to his case.

This product does not fit a Trombone mute of any kind. good for trumpet or horn. Trombone case should be about 30% bigger.
