I use these in my garden to write the name of plants and seeds on. They work well. They have many other uses. The main use is to shim up a door when you install it. But, you can also use it to paddle your hamster when he is naughty. They would make a tolerable tongue blade. Push a pin through the middle, and you could play spin the bottle with them. Finally, you could actually build a house with them if you had about 200 gallons of Elmer's glue. Never let it be said that I fail to help my fellow Amazonian in my reviews.

Shims are shims are shims. These are NOT made in America like some reviewers have stated. They are 100% China made.Still shims though.

Shaped well and packaged well. These would be okay for applications where you don't need to drive them in. However I planned to use to between floor joists and deck to silence a squeak. That required shims that can be driven in. These don't work for that. Most are not cut true to grain and are brittle. Even a slight driving impact causes them to break where the grain is not parallel to the shim. 80 to 90 percent of the package failed. The few old cedar shims that I had on hand worked fine.

SHIM is a whole concept -- a small wedge to even out the discrepancies. Don't you wish there were shims for everything in life? Well, this product comes close. First, you get PLENTY of them. Second, they're beautifully made -- smooth, consistent, strong. Third, you can use two of them together (yin/yang style) to make more thickness when needed. Fourth, they're made in USA! Years ago I used to take cedar shakes and break them into shims, and that's fine for what it is. But THESE shims are my preference now. Easily earn five stars.

Only flaw is they don't tape the boxes shut my first box had about 25% missing. I'm assuming someone dropped it spilled them and just closed them up and shipped it. But all the shims from all 3boxes were high quality no knots or sections missing.

I use these wood shims for my thickness planer when I need to flatten a board that is not straight. Photos attached. I couldn't find the type of shims i was looking for in the big box store so I ordered them here on Amazon. I read where someone claimed his shims were not cedar. Although for my use it doesn't matter since I only use them for actual shimming. I like that you get a lot of wood shims for a little money. These should last for years for me since I will be reusing most of the shims and not discarding after every use. These are exactly what i was looking for. 5 stars

I should have bought more of these. They are so much fun to work with. The uses of these shims are endless. I have done many different craft items with it. They can be cut with scissors. You can hot glue them, or use any wood glue. They can be painted. I have made lamp shades with them for odd light sources that use led lights. They combine easily with mixed media like fabric scraps, paper, screen etc. This is a perfect size box for a kid on a rainy day stuck inside.

I have purchased another two boxes of these shims for the 2nd time around. I use them in helping to secure rough stock in the vise of my lapidary saw. Being made of cedar, they are compressed easily by the sharp ridges or bumps on the exterior of the rough stock and ensure a tight, non-slip fit, without splitting apart, and can be re-used over again several times in many cases, dependent upon the roughness of the exterior of the jasper or agate I am cutting. Highly recommended.
