For the price, this is a good quality portable microphone that's both simple and versatile. Easy to connect and power, and gives reasonably good quality sound. In terms of pickup and quality, it's a big step up from most laptop or phone mics, but probably not good enough for serious journalism, or streaming etc. but might work well for IRL streaming sort of scenario thanks to its small size and weight.

Gosh, I cant say enough about the neewer brand, they are quite great for those who are looking to create a home studio with video and audio production without having to worry about breaking the bank! In my eyes, neewer is great entry level production equipment. And by entry level, I do not mean the crap you get for pennies on the dollar, I mean this is REAL entry level equipment. For those looking to either start a vlog, or interview people on the go, this mic works really well. Now, of course you have to consider your hardware AND software capabilities, in order to get the most out of your equipment. This mic is plug and play, meaning its ready to work right out of the box! However, I always encourage you to get to know your equipment front and back before taking it out on the field. Nothing worse than bringing a new piece of tech to a destination or event without knowing how to use it! Overall this is a great product at a great price point. I'm always excited about Neewer products, so be sure to check out all the other great equipment they have as well!

I tested this mic from around 1M away, comparing the internal phone mic (OnePlus), this Neewer mic with the filter turned off, and lastly with the filter enabled.Internal phone mic is clear, but does pick up a reasonable amount of background noise and especially echo around the room. It's not something you normally notice too much, but really it's actually quite prominent. This Neewer mic is a vast improvement. The sound is being picked up from only the direction of speech, there is much less echo and general background room noise (laptop fan, etc), so the output is clearer. For interviewing it would be a great investment, especially in a slightly more noisy environment. The mic is let down by the filter, essentially it ruins the output. The only time I could conceive that it might be useful would be in very noisy environments, where the noise is worse than the filtered output. In general, though, just leave it turned off.Headphone output is useful, but don't expect to be able to use it for recording purposes. There is quite an amount of background hiss on this feed which is not present on the main USB digital output.Box contains a foam filter and a "dead cat" which should be useful for windy situations outdoors. They fit very snugly, but it gets easier to slide them on having used them a few times. Also contains a carry bag, a plastic mount to hold the microphone on a camera hot shoe or tripod, and two adapter cables to connect the mic to USB-C or lightning if you don't want to plug it directly into the phone socket. That latter thing is possibly the worst thing about this mic, but it's understandable why it has been done - the USB plug is permanently attached and sticking out of the mic, rather than being a socket as usual. This means you can plug it into a phone, but it then needs a USB extension cable to plug into anything else, rather than a normal USB cable - plugging it into a laptop will work (I tried it), but you are probably limited to the 6" cable supplied. The design also means there is potentially a lot of force that could be applied to the phone USB socket if you're not careful or don't use the cable.Generally though it's a nice mic which can really help to improve recording when used in the right situations.

The microphone arrived in a sealed plastic bag. This contained a good quality box with a sticky seal so you know its not pre-used. There is an inner plastic tray which held the microphone in its own ziplock bag, and all the accessories.Everything looks to be top quality, with the microphone body made of aluminium held together with screws. The included carry bag is useful to keep everything together. What I like about this microphone is its flexibility. It can be attached to a phone or tablet for interviewing on the go, or used free standing with the provided extension cables for static use. The dampening support can be used freestanding without a tripod as the microphone is light and balanced.I do have a slight concern if the microphone is used directly attached to a phone as it could easily break the microphone plug or damage the phone socket if knocked due to the leverage. Use of the short extension cable does avoid this risk.In use I found the microphone to be very sensitive, especially with noise cancellation off. On the topic of noise cancellation, I couldn’t find any guidance as to which switch position is on and which is off, but its quite obvious in use by trial and error.I got to test the customer support from Neewer who are based in the US. I have a dog and several cats who work as a team. One of the cats knocked the foam windshield onto the floor for the dog to chew. I contacted Neewer support by email to ask where I could purchase a replacement and they contacted me within 24 hours and said they would send one to me free of charge. Good customer support is worth a lot.Overall, this is an excellent quality microphone with good customer support. Highly recommended.

My first concern with this item (considering all of the product photo's) is that this may be a bit too heavy and may strain the USB Type-C ports on my devices (specifically, my iPad Pro), and my concerns were put to rest as this microphone is nice and lightweight at roughly 46 grams, so it should be fine for extended usage when plugged in directly, though any accidental knocks would of course be quite catastrophic, so I'd advise using the cable should you be filming in an environment where that could happen.Sound quality on this is excellent, and picks up my voice nice and clearly without any of the background sounds behind it; my testing environment was my PC desk, with a desk fan at max speed directly blowing at me just behind and to the right of the microphone. As this is a cardioid mic, it basically picks up sounds from only one direction; the front of the microphone. When used outdoors, depending on the direction of the wind, it may pick that up too, but with the provided dead cat, it greatly minimises that. There's also an included foam shield for less windier conditions. Both have quite a tight fit on the mic, especially the foam one which can be a struggle to get on.As it's USB Type-C, you're not limited to having it facing one direction; it can be unplugged and reversed to face backwards, which is good for interviews (though you'd need to stop and start recordings as you switch directions).Noise cancelling was a bit strange, whilst it does work well, it may work a bit too well and eliminates most of the audio range from your voice leaving it very very flat - noise cancelling may be useful for some, but I personally do not have any use for that. It's toggled by a hardware switch on the back.It includes two cables - one USB-C to lighting for older iPhones, and a USB-C to USB-C if you don't want the mic connected directly to your USB-C device. Tip to tip, these cables are just under 32cm long, so for more elaborate setups, you'll want to source your own longer USB-C cable. For me, this is an excellent microphone, as I do a lot of Zoom calls, online presentations, and most importantly, I record a lot of video guides for software and web app usage, so having a clear microphone like this is extremely important, so that they are easy to understand even on the most rubbish speakers that a user may have.

This is a good way to improve the audio of your videos if you have a phone or tablet with a Type-C connector. As is the case with all Neewer products I've used, construction quality is excellent. The mic is plug 'n play with the iPad 11 Pro I tested it on. Audio quality is good. The mic has a cardioid pickup pattern and should reject sounds from the rear. I did not text the noise reduction feature.A 3.5mm audio jack allows real-time monitoring. The mic comes with a "dead cat" and foam muffler, which is a nice feature. Two cables are provided: an OTG data cable an a Type-C male to female adapter. A shock mount is also included along with a fabric carrying bag.Audio is natural sounding and much better than that from my iPad mics. All said, a good value.Jerry
