These files work great and fit nicely in the hand. Unfortunately, if you buy additional file sizes and try to fit them all in the case. The lid won't close with the files standing straight up. The files have to be at a bit of an angle in the case so they are shorter and the lid will close. Somebody missed the mark on that one.

Dislike: Price. For a set of files to work on the guitar nut.Like: The plastic handles make for a nice fit in your hands when filing nut slots. The files can be removed from the plastic holder if you like that option.

These files are exactly what I was looking for - namely, a rounded profile. All the other nut files I've seen have square files resulting in a flat-bottom string slot. I do have a few misc. nut files from another supplier (from Ohio) and they have s sort of rounded profile but the spec is way out - they are oversized. These Music Nomad files are a diamond-coated version and they work great not only for nut slotting but for saddle tune-up on electric guitars. I had a high-E sitar sound going on with my 335 and since the saddles are titanium my regular jewelers files would not touch them. Using the .010 size diamond-coated MN file I was able to mitigate the issue very quickly.Another point that I'd like to make is that you can remove the file from the handle which comes in very handy when you need to just do a little touch up and the handle is in the way.I love these files. I'm so glad I found them.

After deciding to replace the nut of my new guitar to a Tusq one, I had to file the (preslotted) slots to proper depth as they were significantly too high otherwise. I first got a 10€ set of supposed nut files for this, which were not more than little metal rods with some knurling on it, it didnt get through the tusq very well and as far as it did, it wasnt going to get very pretty as the rods had very little and rapidly decreasing texture. So I stopped and since I enjoy maintaining and modding guitars, I decided to get a set of good quality files. This set seemed like a good match to most string gauges I use. Benefit of the set is it gets you a really nice aluminum case with padded inside to store them in. You get less options than with separates but if you find a suitable set it's a nice extra. The files themselves are very good from my limited reference. The handles are easy to hold and for harder to access places you can remove the blade with a minimal sized handle (i didnt find this needed so far). After using these to finish my nut slots and file them down to about 0.4mm on fret one, I was able to get the action lower than I could before and as a result the guitar now places a lot nicer. They are not cheap and for filing one nut its not worth it, just let a pro do it, but if you work on guitars regularly, these make really nice shaped and clean slots. I have not tried other nutfiles of good quality so how they compare I cant call, but the result is great and I think the blades will last many nuts.It is important to brush the filed material from the file edge, after and sometimes in between filing as well. A little brush would have been a good addition to the storage case, but a toothbrush or something works fine.

They work well. Cuts through the nut very easily. Opened and lowered my nut slots in no time at all. No more binding at the nut. Only con is the price but I fugured I would save that in one or two uses doing it myself vs paying for someone to do it

They give excellent control. I have used them to adjust several guitars now, and they do the job beautifully each time. Even used them to smooth a metal adjustable bridge for the strings. Before that, they buzzed sometimes. Excellent tools, though pricey. They were invaluable when restoring a Fender 12-string with a broken top nut. One mistake on these, and you get to do another twelve slots! Those are a pain! It's not worth it! Get decent tools if this is something you will do more than once... Make sure to stick the size labels on them as soon as you get them. They are not labeled from the factory but come in labeled bags that do not fit in the case... They come with stickers you can put on them to keep them straight, but if you don't, you won't know the sizes because they all look remarkably the same... It would be better if the company permanently stamped the size on the plastic holders. Stickers can come off...!

I've been doing my own setups and stuff for many, many years. I had trouble bringing myself to spending $90 on a set of nut files because realistically it's a one and done type of deal most of the time. You're not filing a nut again after it's been done so unless you are replacing it this is not going to be a high use tool. But a good setup including nut dressing is going to set you back a good chunk of this initial cost....and we all know that this isn't the last guitar you are going to buy if you are this deep into the habit. A good tool is usually going to take some time to pay itself off. I don't have to screw around and struggle ever again for this task. I hate being a tightwad....I should have bought these years ago.So I made my own nut files years ago by cutting some teeth into a handful of feeler gauges that were the right size. Technically it worked, realistically it was so inconsistent in the cutting that if it didn't take an hour to cut 2 slots I usually went to deep and had to get the crazy glue and baking powder out.Anyway, I just sold like 5 guitars the last couple months which means I have 5 new guitars this year (don't act like you don't know how this works) and they all needed some fret and nut dressing. I did 3 of them this morning....I think that it took about 10 minutes to dress the first nut because I was getting used to it and probably a little less for each one after that. These files work fast, they work great, they are the right size for my strings (.10 Ernie Ball SS) and I was able to get a feel to gauge and regulate how much material was removed accurately after the first few passes. The result is that my G string is in tune when I fret at the 2nd fret on all 3 guitars. It's always that string isn't it? I also have lower action with less buzz and the craziest thing is that with .10's on all 3 guitars they feel like .09's now.You buy a set of these, a StewMac Fretkisser, a decent tuner, and a string height gauge and I think that you can do about 90% of what at pro does for a setup. I've got 3 other guitars that are Plek'd and for the first time I can get that same result. It's insane.Oh, and I ordered these at around noon and had them by 3PM the same day. I've been a prime member for a long time, but I've never had that kind of turnaround.

I really like these nut files well made work very well, cut nice easy to control and work with. Very perfect cuts, you can be dead on accurate with these or you can be aggressive and still file very good and straight. Best files i have ever used for nuts, want to buy every single size they have now LOL

These file are worth the money. If you're going to be working with hard nuts, bone nuts frequently, these files will serve well. If you're just trying to fix up a couple of guitars, there are cheaper alternatives. You can use a silverware knife on a plastic nut if you have to, but don't.I like quality tools. I don't have to buy them twice.

A good tool if used cautiously. I've improved the setup of 2 guitars so far. What is the value of a more playable guitar? These is space in the box for other files. Its a pity that they don't sell a 0.08"
