This thing has been so handy setting up guitars. I've been doing it another way that was very unpredictable and was not the easiest workflow. This allows you to get the exact height needed and have consistent setups and is well worth it.

This worked perfectly for setting up my Floyd rose locking nuts. I had actually gotten them a little low, and there was What are you doing? some pinging and buzzing, but this thing got me straightened right out. The measurements are perfect. Very thankful to have found this, highly recommended.

I have a standard set of automotive gauges. I wanted some thing I could keep with my guitar set up tools. These are very very nice! Don’t take up a lot of room. They do the job! After setting the nut height action on my guitar? All of the notes at the first, Fret are in tune! Everyone should have a set of gauges and nut files. Doing your own set ups is really easy. Doesn’t take a lot of time to learn.

These work as they should. Seem to be durable. Unsure of the precise accuracy, but they have performed well in my hands.

I like to work on my own guitars but I'm not a guitar tech / luthier and I'm not doing this sort of work every day. If I was, I would probably regard this tool as an overpriced set of feeler gauges.Because I'm not doing it every day, I see it as a simplified set of feeler gauges that also happens to have what to do and how to do it embossed right on the side of the tool. I may not need to check or adjust the nut slots on a guitar for a year but when it's time for that, I won't need to remember the measurements or consult five different Youtube videos on how to do it.In general, Music Nomad does a great job of applying the "80/20" rule with their tools. Sure you can fuss and fiddle with nut slot depths and neck relief settings if you want but for 80% of guitars and 80% of players, these settings are perfectly fine. That's the benefit.

This is a handy, accurate gauge with thicknesses optimized for checking the first fret string height (to validate nut slot height). I found that judging the gap between the string and the gauge by sight is difficult. I settled on slightly pressing the string against the gauge. If there is any movement at all, then there is still a gap there. If there is no movement, you might still need to try a thinner gauge on that string to box in the reading.I really didn't believe that my Taylor 6-string (with pickup electronics) came from the factory with bad nut height, but I was hearing buzzing on some open strings and needed a sanity check. It turns out that this type of buzzing is endemic with these type of Taylor guitars, caused by unwanted contact between the cabling and components inside the body of the guitar. I couldn't locate the source of the buzz, but shortly after purchasing this gauge, the buzzing went away by itself.

All gauges in one location. Used it to check depths and it's good to know it's there when and if I need new nuts.

This product has to be thought of in conjunction with the booklet and videos that accompany their use. Yes, this is a lot of money for something that is in effect a set of 'curated' and carefully marked feeler gauges, but because of the other materials and the very clear markings and instructions, I've made more progress in doing my own setups since buying the music nomad gear and following along with their videos, than I have in the past 30 years of various books and picking up tips here and there. Recommended – just be sure to follow along with their tutorials. I'm sure once I've absorbed it all I'll branch out but for the moment, these get a solid thumbs up. I'll post an identical review for their truss rod gauges which are also excellent.
