battery box screw could not be removed. It was screwed in so tight, that even with the perfect sized apex jewelers screw driver, I have to resort to literally drilling the screw OUT! Now, I have to use tape to keep the battery box closed. The tool works fine, but this small detail means the first time you try to install a set of batteries (each piece of this two part set requires a battery and no battery is supplied), you will have to remove the screws. these screws are made of very soft metal. So you end up smashing them because the screws are set into plastic so tight, there is no way to unscrew them. I had to use a drill bit and literally run the heads of the screws down so I could carefully life the plastic lid up and then use needle nose pliers to remove the remaining screw. Now I have to use tape to make sure the lids stay shut. Not very well made.

I regularly have failed cables where I don't know where the break is, so don't know where to cut or what can be salvaged. This immediately helped find which end break was in for some headphone extension cables. I clipped sender to one end, then ran receiver along cable and found where signal got quieter. This is a must-have.Units are not high quality construction, but sturdy enough if treated well. Both require a 9V battery. Switch cuts power off (verified with µA meter) so batteries won't drain when not in use.Sender puts signal on wire, and receiver amplifies faint pickup to tell when near that wire. Break in wire will cause signal drop at that point. Sender also has LED continuity tester (no sound). And when off it serves as power/polarity tester, green if polarity matches, red if reversed. 3-5V give dim LED, and it works up to at least 48V that phone lines use.Receiver is sensitive and picks up signal from a distance. Probe actually has nothing in it and sensor it behind base. Using speaker there is audible feedback when gain is turned up much, due to detector acting as microphone. There is a headphone jack which would eliminate this feedback issue. I fixed this by opening and putting some foam on the little spring detector, now no feedback.
