This is basically a set of petri dishes that attract mold. Mold is always present in the air - even outside, the only question is how much of it is present. So if you let these dishes sit out long enough in the right humidity, eventually they will grow spots. The key here is to not let them sit out too long before reading the results. That said, it does take days even in the best of circumstances to grow enough to be visible. And here in lies probably the main issue - it does take days to get an idea of how much of a problem you have. Don't expect instant or quick results here.

Mold is everywhere but its good to know if there is TOO much mold where you live. These agar plate test kit does the job it states and works really well. Its a little confusing as the box says "Rapid Results in 3 Days" but the booklet says you can see mold on the 3rd day but its best to identify them on day 10. I'm at day 7 and I am not surprised my results. My basement test plate is absolutely disgusting, and now I can use it to convince the hubby we need to really address the damp problem down there. Surprisingly, my bedroom plate has barely any mold on it. I attribute that to my Dyson Airfilter, which runs 24/7 to help with my dust allergy.Overall this is a really good mold testing kit to help you understand the air quality in your house.

I just received and deployed the 5 mold test kits that were included in the product. The product page is not very straightforward about the capabilities of this kit. Essentially it uses some relatively subjective criteria to count the number of colonies of mold that accumulate over a 10 day period after exposing each petri dish for two hours in the area you are testing. The petri dishes are very thin and flimsy and one of them broke just by me writing on it per the instructions in the kit. Based upon what is in the instructions in the kit, there isn't any sort of indication that helps to discern what type of mold you have. The kit simply informs you that if you have more than 22 colonies of mold that you likely need to get help. At a price point of $22 or so the kit is not a lot of money but I still remain fairly skeptical of any meaningful measurement that would help with a black mold infestation or something seriously bad for your health. Although this kit is labeled as "fast results", I will follow-up after I've been through the 10 day waiting period that the kit requires... 3/5 stars for being an inexpensive and easy to deploy kit thus far...

We have been noticing a rise in our allergies, so I thought this would be good to rule out a more serious problem. The kit did it's job. We ended up finding a leak in one of our bathrooms after the dish from that room showed much more mold than the other rooms we tested.This kit was very easy to set up and the instructions were clear. I like that it can be used to test the air or actual surfaces. Regardless of how clean your home is, you'll probably get some amount of mold after 10 days, but it should give you an idea of how serious the problem is. Overall, this product helped us identify the source of our allergy problem. Would recommend!

I am mister allergy... I’m allergic to every mold out there, plus just about all tree, weed, and grass pollens. No fun. I ordered this to test air quality in my home office, which is located in our basement.We had a new HVAC system installed about a year ago and my hope was that the mold levels were greatly reduced. The musty odors vanished after the new system was installed, plus about once a month I will run an ozone generator on high for two hours while we are away.This test is simple to use and doesn’t require any special skills or tools. The cold truth is that you can place this or a similar product anywhere and get some mold growth as it is everywhere in our environment. The key is how much mold... is there enough in the area to cause health issues?We did get three mold spots to grow, but after 10 days, they didn’t get very big... so I feel pretty good. I will test again in the middle of next summer when humidity levels are at their highest.For what you get, this seems to be a fairly priced little kit.

I was a little skeptical if this would work but the pictures speak for themselves… the directions are super easy to follow and you get results quickly! This is the result so far on day 3!
