So this devices does not log data as well as don't keep a record of the last data even. So quite useless for the purpose I needed the device for. No good value of money!

For the optimal use of uvb bulbs, this is a must. Make sure your reptile pets are getting the uvb exposure they need to build healthy bone and overall health. Don't waste money on bulbs that don't do the job. Invest in the meter. It will pay for itself in no time.

I used this device to check all the bulbs and lights in my residence for the possibility of UVB emission. It also works well for sunlight in a shade which of course contains a little UVB and is detected accordingly. I removed its battery before stowing it away.

Use to get idea how much life left on reptile UVB lamp. Works great and identified a few dead bulbs. I wish I could get it earlier.

I was hesitant getting it at first because of the price (like many people I'm sure) but now I realize how important this device is if you keep reptiles, especially those that need lots of UVB like bearded dragons. I tested my lamps and it turns out that one of my pupular brand of Exo Terra, supposedly ''for desert reptiles'', uvb coil bulb was absolute crap and gave off barely any UVB at all once the animal is only a few inches away!Even my mercury light bulb wasn't giving off anything near as much UVB as it promised once the bulb is placed above a terrarium screen or the animal is several inches bellow... and they don't warn you of that on the box. I quickly got an Arcadia brand light (those are great btw!) and was able to decide what distance and where to place the lamp by seeing the UVB readings on the Solarmeter.I also think I might get my money back in the long run since I can monitor my expensive uvb bulbs and know when they need actual change, instead of doing the automatic 6 month replacements "just to be safe''.

if you keep a reptile this mirror is for you, know exactly how much UVB rays your baby is getting. Again this works great with UVB Bulbs. It can save you money in the long run, When UVB bulbs getting into the 30.00 to 60.00. I see you starting to save money at the 6 months mark. As most bulbs say you must change them at 6 months. With this you will know if your bulbs need to be changed.llso you will know if your Pet is getting what it needs from UVB rays with out the guess work. A+++

This Solarmeter gets one star simply because I couldn't figure out how to use it. I ended up returning it and getting the newer one that measures the uv index. This one didn't even come with any directions. Unless you know what you're doing or want to get a box with a button that presses in I recommend getting the 6.5 versionEdit: Just so I don't sound like an idiot, I understand that when you push the button and face the sensor up it gives you a number. This does work fine. I'm trying to use this uv meter to measure the uvb output on the lamps in my reptile cages. I had no idea if the number I was getting was high or low or what the heck it meant at all. There's no gauge for scale included in the package. My only option would have been to get brand new lamps for all my cages, measure the output, and then check it every so often as the uvb output decreased until I thought the number was too low (again only a guess) or until it was 0 which was not acceptable. All of my cages are also set up differently so it would have meant assuming that the setup and light strength at the measuring spot was ok to start with.

I just received my solarmeter 6.2. When I press the black button on the front and aim it at the sun or when I aim it at my 10.0 uvb reptile light I am getting a reading for uva and uvb. In all of the pictures of this exact model it is only the uvb results that come up. This solarmeter 6.2 is combining the reading. On the left side of the number that is displayed shows the letters uva and under that uvb. Why wont it just show uvb? That is why I bought it. For a UVB reading. Is this defective? Can someone please help. I have four bearded dragons and the cost of upkeep is draining me. ThanksUpdate: I decided there may be something wrong with it and, unfortunately,I was going to have to return it. I contacted amazon and they were going to refund my money and I could purchase another one. I had read all of the positive reviews on the company selling this item and ask the amazon rep. if there were any way to contact Pangea reptile and he gave me a contact number. I called them and left a message and five min. later I got a return call from them. Long story short, BEST CUSTOMER SERVICE I COULD EVER HOPE FOR! They are sending me a new one. I cant say enough how much I appreciated your help with this. Thank You So Much!!

It seems to work as advertised. The tanning beds that I use do indeed, according to this unit and my total UV meter, come up with the 5% UVB which is what the bulb specs are supposed to be. It will be interesting to measure UVB levels throughout the year. I was surprised to see that here in Maryland measured 100(um/cm^2) in January. the tanning bed measures 500 to 600. I thought it would be much lower than 100. Great product!
