The TENMARS TM-214 Tint Meter is very basic, no-frills tool; it works well and is easy to use. The two halves go on either side of the window glass and a magnet pulls them together and aligns them. The large display is easy to read and indicates the % of light transmittance pretty much immediately, as long as the glass is flat in the region being tested. If the glass surface has excessive curvature, however, the two halves may not align properly and the display will show “err” to warn you that a good measurement cannot be made. I like that the meter has been factory-calibrated so that it can be used right-out-of-the-box and that it also comes with two reference samples to validate that the calibration remains accurate. I checked my meter against these two references and the measurements matched. As an additional test, I also checked some actual automobile windows: the first had 31% light transmission. The second, which was visibly darker to the eye than the first and also darker than the 25% reference sample, measured at just 20% light transmission. That indicates to me that the measurements are reliable.
