Without having multiple units it's hard to judge how accrete this one is, but it seems well made and gives readings that make sense. I really like the telescopic wand, makes it very handy. Build quality seems good.

Excellent tool for a grow room, great to have PAR, humidity, and temperature measured all in one unit. Overall the item is exactly as described, and performs as expected.

I propagate a lot of my outdoor plants inside before bringing them outside. Some of them can be finicky about light. I've been relying on phone apps to get an idea of PAR, but I figured it was sort of a ballpark at best. People have told me the phone apps can be surprisingly accurate, and maybe it's just my Android phone, but this meter just seems to be in another league in terms of accuracy. I seem to be getting much better results!

PAR is the best way to compare and calculate light output. With a number of indoor planting projects and a high light reef tank this is a device that's come in very handy for me to track my lights output. Recommended.

Got this on a deal for $100. This is the real deal. Do not bother with those phone apps, this PAR meter has allowed me to adjust my grow, and realize what lights I need.

This is a great tool for creating a "PAR map" for your grow lights at various heights / distances from the light. Why might I want to create a "PAR map" for my grow lights, you ask? Simple. Plants, whatever you're growing, from cannabis to African violets, will perform better at higher intensity levels. Knowing what your light intensity is at what distance from your light will tell you how far from your plants you need to be for a desired intensity level, and how wide of an area that light will spread at said intensity. This way, you aren't inadvertently trying to grow plants in "dead zones" where there isn't enough light. This can be an important step to maximizing your YIELD/WATT ratio, which is pretty much your "ultimate economic indicator" when growing indoors. You want just the right light intensity for the area, too much starts to get wasteful and produces too much heat, and not enough obviously won't yield good growth results. This is pretty much THE tool to creating that "PAR map", and getting the most from what you're using. It would be nice if it were waterproof for aquarium use, but you can't have everything. I did deduct -1 star for being AAA powered. That's 6 volts. It could easily be powered by a pair of 18650 batteries and be plug-in rechargeable. But no, they decided to make it powered by alkaline batteries. So, if you're not going to use this for a while, please remember to remove the batteries or you might come to find those alkaline batteries have leaked all over your expensive PAR meter and ruined it.Here's crossing my fingers for the next "version" of this meter to feature long-lasting rechargeable batteries.Overall, it's an extremely valuable tool for figuring out what your lights are really doing, and for getting the most out of them. Being nearly essential for the multi-light mid to large scale grower, even the small closet grower will find some value here in making sure they're getting the most out of what they have. I do wish it was rechargeable, but even though it's not, I still recommend it just based on how well it works and how useful it is. 4 stars.

Update:I received updated instructions from the seller and included them in the photos (converted PDF to JPG). The user interface is still non-sensical and the buttons seem to work only sporadically, but the updated instructions help. So added back one star.Original review:If this had usable instructions and buttons that seemed to work all the time, it would be a five-star product.By the way, PAR = Photosynthetically Active Radiation, the light energy in the 400nm to 700nm range that plants use through photosynthesis to convert light energy to chemical energy. The basic functionality of the unit works okay, as you can see in the photos. And I was surprised at how much a small change in distance reduced the measured PAR light intensity. (When I turned off the colored LEDs in the light so only the white light LEDs were on, the PAR dropped to the 90s even at the closest range.)Beyond the basic functionality it was all downhill.1. The instructions are borderline useless, and what is useful is thoroughly confusing.2. The buttons work only sporadically. For example, the backlight/RECALL button only sometimes turns on the backlight, other times it does nothing.3. I press and hold the power/SET button, and I am prompted "CLr P10". Clear what? What is "P10"? If I press the up/down arrow buttons, I am prompted "unt P80". What is "unt"? What is "P80""? If you press the ENTER button, it will now switch to "P81" (no idea what that is), and you can select the temperature units C or F. Press ENTER again, then ESC a bunch of times and you will get back to the main display hopefully/eventually.4. Sometimes the ESC button seems to work, other times it does nothing.5. Even trying to turn off the unit with the power/SET button only works sometimes.Maybe this is a beta release of the user interface and instructions. If so, it was not ready to be released for general use.I've written to the seller and if I hear back I will update this review.

This Par meter works really well for measuring light output. I actually had to do a replacement because the first one didn't work at all. The second one works great. I've tested a lot of the grow lights that I have against it and they seem to match their listings so that would mean that this part is accurate or maybe they use this one to measure the light who knows I don't know if it's accurate because I don't have anything to baseline it on, but it does give a really good reading and allows me to know where my lights need to be positioned for my plants
