I decoupaged one of my electric guitars and used the Minwax lacquer on the final coats. Dry time was quick so I was able to give it 7-10 coats.

The price has almost doubled since I bought this in 2019! The fumes given off by Lacquer are NO Joke. This is extremely potent fumes that you do Not want to breath in and fill any dwelling with! The other downside is temperature requirements. Has to be very mild with low to moderate humidity to use. Although spaying on Lacquer is easier, it is a serious mess and the overspray can cause damage to other things unintended to be sprayed. Enter Brushing Lacquer. The same problems with fumes but No problems with overspray and needing a spray booth. It also might need a little more time to flatten but end results are identicle.

I really like the 30 min recoat time! With proper scheduling around dust creation you can apply several coats in a couple of days.Finish is quite smooth and hopefully durable.Tips: don’t put pressure on 30 min coats - wait till overnight before flipping over or taping lacquered sides. I got sticky residue if I applied blue masking tape in less than 24 hours.Use brown paper bag paper to smooth between coats

I've used many Minwax products over the years and have been rarely disappointed. Given the normal lacquer I use is stupid expensive right now and hard to find, I decided to try this spray lacquer on an urn I made for my aunt. The final finish is exactly what I was looking for. The spray was even, dried quickly and the semi gloss is just a hint more on the flatter side than what I normally use which was perfect.

This product is a good experience. I used up the whole can, without any nozzle maintenance (like cleaning it with acetone after use), except the usual spraying it upside down after use in order to force clean air through it and clear out the lacquer so it does not clog.I am a big fan of its unique (to me, at least) nozzle technology. The nozzle has crenelations around its circumference, which provide some pleasant features:-normal spray from a round-holed nozzle comes out in the shape of a cone, in which the base of the circumference of the cone is spray so thin that it just evaporates into the surrounding air, and is wasted. The crenelations flatten out the base of the cone, so it is directed to, and focused on, your target. The means less waste, plus, a better and more even coat of lacquer.-the crenelations make the spray function softer to the touch, and easier to activate and deactivate. The lacquer is quick-drying, and pretty-much dry to the touch in a minute, and ready for another coat in the 1/2 hour as advertised. When I get the spray all over my hands, it seems not to be messy, and is dry in no time, almost giving the illusion that I do not need to clean them. When the lacquer runs out, there still is enough pressure in the can to shoot useless air out of the nozzle, which confirms you have used up all the lacquer, and none is wasted due to lack of pressure. I am buying more, with the assurance the whole can will be empty, before any of its mechanisms for spraying are kaput, which is quite a disappointment, and happens with other products.

I have used this on 3 guitars, and with each one I get a little better putting it on and getting better results. I actually had a couple runs in the first guitar, yikes, but all my fault. Put it on thick enough to look glossy and no more. But I was able to sand it out a couple days later and spray again. I put about 20 total coats on my guitars, sanding every few to smooth out the orange peel. The finished results look very great all the flaws were my own doing, not the product. It goes on consistent and smooth. I'd recommend warming the can in some warm water before using, it seems to spray smoother that way. After the last coat, sanding with paper right up to 2000 grit (automotive stores!) and a polishing compound to finish. This product can give you some awesome results!!Remember this is a nitrocellulose lacquer so you can't put your guitar in a regular guitar stand with the foam on the arms. The foam is petroleum based and will slowly react with the finish, dulling it or softening it. It can get pretty ugly if your guitar sits against the foam. Tip: wrap the foam with black gaffers tape and you'll be good to go!
