I purchased this $5,000 BTU AC unit for my 12 volt solar generator build. The unit is small and fits in one of my windows easily. The reason I bought it, it was reasonably priced and many comments were very positive with this AC unit. I will only use it in case of an emergency for example a electrical blackout. So far, it works well in my trial. It quickly cools off a small room without any issues. For my needs it's a very good product. I recommended for a small room only and in case of an emergency. To be used with a 12 volt or 48 volt generator system.

I live in Southern California where it rarely frosts. This 12k btu unit is cooling and heating half of my 2k sq ft house minus the 3 bedrooms. Most nights don't get below 40. The heat will shut off on my 12000 btu unit at about 36F even with the latest firmware. I bought this mostly for the heater and it has been performing well all winter. For my climate, it's almost perfect. For me, a 28F shut off would be ideal. I understand that is is difficult to produce a heat pump at this size and price range and have it heat at very low temps. It can only reach about 67F inside when it's in the 40s outside but that's fine with me. It's pretty loud on the outside in my experience, louder than the LG non inverter window AC it replaced. Pretty quiet on the inside once the set temp is reached and held. It also vibrates a bit when first turned on and working hard. The classic app works pretty good, the new one doesn't seem as good but you aren't forced on it yet.The biggest issue I have had is the condensation on the outside. It has the spray the water back on the condenser design which, when humid, creates way too much water and it soaks the whole outside unit including the outside wall. The spray the condenser design doesn't work well when used as a heater so I had to drill a small hole at the back on the bottom to drain the condensation. This has worked well. No more water all over the place. They need to add a drain plug so you can choose to drain it if needed. It needs a metal grid on the back to protect the fins of the condenser. I added one. The filter is flimsy and doesn't give the confidence that it seals very well. It does leak a little bit of outside air to the inside no matter how well you seal it to the window opening. It's an efficient AC and heater. It uses less electricity than the smaller 10K btu AC it replaced. I would buy it again if it's going to last.I hope this heat pump technology continues to evolve for in the window units.

It was the first hot month of the summer, and my electric bill skyrocketed to $683 from the usual $150, thanks to the three AC units I had running frequently. I already had a Midea AC in my bedroom that had worked flawlessly for two years. In search of a more efficient AC, I came across this model and decided to give it a try 40 days ago.Initially, it seemed too good to be true. I rearranged furniture to optimize airflow, hoping one AC could cool my entire living area (about 1000 sq ft). I shut off the other three AC units, and even with it being 94 degrees and humid outside, it maintained a comfortable 69 degrees inside. After running it 24/7 for 40 days, my electricity bill was only $160. Remarkably, my Ngrid account showed that my cooling costs were 95% less than the previous month.Interestingly, despite the 100-degree days, we’ve had 50-degree nights, and the heater kicked in (when set on auto) to keep the place comfortable. I prefer it to be 68-69 degrees year-round, and so far, this unit has completely eliminated temperature fluctuations. If these cost savings are real, this could be my best purchase of the year.**Important Note:** THIS IS NOT A HEATER FOR WINTER & DOES NOT WORK WHEN IT IS BELOW 41 DEGREES OUTSIDE. However, where I live, it typically doesn’t drop below the 40s until December, though it gets close from October. For me, the heater might become a significant feature.Overall, I highly recommend this AC unit 100%!

After central heating and air went completely out of service last summer, I have been forced to look for alternatives because replacing the outrageously expensive central A/C is financially impossible at the moment. So, I have bought Frigidaire, Soleus and now Midea window heat pumps/AC to match or exceed BTU rating of broken central unit. The Frigidaire is the normal (non-inverter) style compressor heat pump. Works FANTASTIC even in sub-zero temps with defrost cycles but is really loud. The Soleus is an inverter heat pump and VERY quiet. It also works extremely well in very cold temps with excellent defrost function. The Midea is extremely quiet would be easily the best of all three but for one fatal flaw. No defrost cycle. It will not work below 41 degrees F outside. If your outside temps never go below 41 degrees overnight in the winter, you may not need a heater at all. This unit would be perfect and by FAR the best window heater/AC on the market if it could only defrost. What were they thinking? They snatched defeat from the jaws of victory here.Update: Sometime this winter Midea did a software update on this unit over WiFi since I have connected to the internet. They MUST have installed a defrost cycle. Because one day it just started defrosting when it was FAR below 40 degrees F. It formerly would give a low temp error code. This means it was software limited to not operate below 40. But now, it worked great even in the mid 20 degree F nights I had this winter. So, I bought another one while I could.Update#2. I did get another one as stated above. The newer one has different firmware, that I cannot update/change from the app for some reason, than the other one and DOES NOT work as well when it goes below 40 degrees F. So it is definitely something about the firmware involved. I have two identical units in the same house with different firmware and one continues working and defrosting LONG after the other shuts down and shows "Lo" error code.

MIDEA MAW05M1BWT Window Air Conditioner, 5000 BTU: This unit is a nice small size but it is rather noisy. It is significantly noisier than my older, similar sized Forest Air A/C unit (be prepared to turn up the TV). The User's Manual covers several models and shows a remote control; however, this small model does NOT have a remote control. It has two control knobs on the front: one knob for temperature and one knob to select Off, Fan or Cool (Hi or Lo). The unit monitors electrical current and there is a breaker button on the power plug that cuts off the power, and a reset button that turns the power back on.
