I'm giving this 3 stars because of the cheap wiring. Most trailer brake wires are 12 gauge, the wire on this thing is 18 gauge. The thickness of the rubber around the wire makes it look like 16 gauge but the actual stranded wire is 18 gauge. The wire was so small I had to crimp a ferrule connector on it to crimp it to a butt connector. I don't know if it'll work when needed or if it'll just burn out the wire. I hope I never have to find out, but I'm hoping it'll work.

The box itself is weatherproofed pretty well. The included battery is holding a charge just fine, and the breakaway switch seems to be well made too. Installing it was pretty straight forward, its a good kit for a decent price.

This is necessary in Virginia, and probably most any state. This could very easily save someone's life if for whatever reason the trailer comes unhooked while driving.This was a direct replacement for the factory switch.

Looks pretty solid. Was easy to wire up. Just want to make sure that my camper is safe along with myself when it comes to breaking. The only thing is I wish they were supplied longer screws which I had screws but be nice to have them.

My enclosed car trailer is almost 20 years old now, so it's time to refresh some things. It predated the common LED lights, and the breakaway system is original from the factory and there's no way it should be trusted.While stripping everything from the trailer for all new wiring and lights, I installed this breakaway setup. Since I was stripping the trailer and redoing the whole thing from scratch, it was a bit time consuming- but if you are simply just replacing the old setup on your trailer, it won't take long at all.The battery needs to be charged, and I'm always surprised how many people don't know that they have to charge the breakaway battery. If there's no power in that battery, the emergency brake activation simply won't work. It will charge when it's connected to your tow vehicle, but if the trailer sits for weeks or months at a time without being used- your battery can drain enough that it won't sufficiently charge again.Great quality setup, and super easy to install. If your trailer is more than ten years old, you already at least need a new battery- and you can renew the whole setup and breakaway switch for such a good price with this kit- this makes more sense.

That was pretty difficult for me because of the age of my truck.I saw this breakaway kit and ordered it immediately.It's relatively easy to install.Yes, it's one of those things that you hope that you never need.It gives me some peace of mind knowing that my trailer will have braking if something goes South, and a decoupling happens.In my opinion, for everything you receive in this kit it's a good deal.I have tons of hardware on hand so that wasn't a problem for me. You may need to make a run to the store to get this kit installed.
