As other reviews have said, it’s definitely a cheap plastic toy, however it works and that’s what matters most right? It comes with a decent amount of slides with interesting things to look at and it’s easy to adjust the focus. I wish it magnified more but it’s not supposed to be any sort of high powered scope. It would be a fun way to show more science to kids and get them interested in walks and learning more about the world around them.

The ad shows the unit with a wrist strap. Mine had the anchoring point for one but the strap was missing from the box. I think a strap is required and constructed one out of twine. The instructions show the battery compartment cover being removed by pressing to the side (which in practice is impossible). In fact, the cover is easily removed by pressing back in the ocular direction. It requires an AA size battery, which is not provided.Enough of the negatives, let’s get to the fun parts.Picture quality at 60x is superb as exampled by use of the printing of paper money out to the edges (I did not bother exploring the zoom feature). Illumination was surprisingly even throughout field of view. Portability is outstanding given it’s small size and weight. The focus feature was easy to use and extended enough to encompass my near sighted eyes. Excellent value for money at the current price point and the build quality was ample for my use (no, the grand kids will not not get this one).It came with a set of slides that were useful while retaining a measure of safety by substituting plastic components for glass.I am going to secure the battery cover with an elastic band and mark the positive battery terminal with a “+” mark with a sharpie (no imprint of same is to be found on the injection molded plastic). I think functionality could be improved if some means could be found to hold the slide to make viewing with an erect head while retaining the dexterity to rotate the focus knob. Working on that.I like it.

The Cankego 60X-120X Pocket Microscope with UV light is a fantastic introduction to the world of microscopy that balances fun, education, and portability perfectly. As an excellent gift choice for kids aged 6 and up, this compact microscope offers a hands-on approach to exploring the microscopic world, fostering curiosity and learning in young minds.Key Features:1. Quality Magnification: With adjustable magnification between 60X and 120X, this pocket microscope allows kids to observe intricate details of various objects. The optical clarity is surprisingly sharp for a microscope of this size, making it perfect for beginners to explore everything from plant cells to fabric fibers.2. UV Light: The addition of a UV light function is a unique and exciting feature. It enhances the viewing experience by helping kids discover hidden details in fluorescent objects, like certain minerals or currency watermarks. This adds an extra 'wow' factor and makes exploration even more engaging.3. 12 Prepared Slides: The inclusion of 12 pre-prepared slides featuring a variety of specimens is a thoughtful touch. From insect parts to plant structures, the pre-made slides provide an immediate starting point for kids to experience the wonders of science without the need for additional preparation. The diversity of materials keeps their interest piqued.4. Portable and Easy to Use: The pocket-size design makes this microscope highly portable and convenient for outdoor exploration or travel. Younger children will appreciate how lightweight and easy it is to handle, while parents will enjoy not having to worry about bulky equipment. The simple dials for magnification adjustment and focus make it user-friendly even for small hands.5. Durability and Build: The microscope feels solid for its price point. While it is primarily made of plastic, it is sturdy enough for a child’s regular use. However, it's important to encourage gentle handling to ensure longevity.6. Cost-Effective Learning Tool: For its price range, the Cankego Pocket Microscope delivers incredible educational value. It nurtures a love for science and encourages kids to step away from screens to explore their surroundings more closely.A Few Considerations:Lighting Sensitivity: The built-in LED light is bright and helpful but can sometimes reflect too strongly off certain surfaces, making it slightly tricky to focus on translucent or highly reflective objects. Supervision and adjustments may be needed for younger kids.Limited Field of View: As with most pocket microscopes, the field of view is slightly restricted compared to larger, tabletop models. While this is expected in a device of this size, it does mean that children may not see large sections of the slide at once.Battery Requirement: The microscope requires batteries (1-AA)to power the LED and UV lights, which increases its functionality, but be sure to have extra batteries on hand to avoid mid-exploration interruptions.Final Verdict:The Cankego 60X-120X Pocket Microscope with UV Light is a fabulous tool for sparking curiosity and introducing children to the hidden wonders of the microscopic world. Its combination of practical features, portability, and thoughtful extras like UV light and prepared slides make it an engaging and interactive STEM toy. While it may not replace higher-end microscopes meant for advanced learning, it is perfect for young beginners and hobbyists. If you're looking for a way to encourage a budding young scientist or simply want to inspire an appreciation for nature and science, this pocket microscope is an affordable, entertaining, and educational choice. It's an investment in curiosity, and for that, it gets a solid 4.5 out of 5 stars!

When I was really young, I had a little 30x pocket microscope that I had a lot of fun looking at all sorts of stuff with. When I saw this, it brought back some good memories of that gadget... but I ordered it for a real purpose. I often need to inspect an area of a circuit board with small SMD parts on it. I have a digital microscope for the purpose, but I have limited space and it requires a bit of setup every time I want to use it. So, I got this with the hope that, when I need to have a quick look at something, I might be able to do it more quickly and conveniently. It should work fine for that purpose at least some of the time. Ultimately, the optical quality is that of a toy, not a real tool. But, as a toy, I think this is great! And I wouldn't hesitate to get it as a gift for any kid with an interest in science or nature. It comes with some prepared slides that would get them started, but they'll have the most real fun looking at anything and everything else... paper, fabric, leaves, skin, hair, etc., etc.The one downside I've found is that the battery cover comes off very easily. It might be best to put a piece of tape on it just to avoid it flying off and breaking should you (or your child) drop this little scope.
