The dust bag zipper was entirely not moveable. I called metabo and they told me to talk to Amazon. All I wanted was a dust bag that works. Amazon tried to initiate a return of the entire sander. So I called metabo again. They said there’s really no other way. So I guess I’ll return it. I wonder if metabo’s board members know how wasteful this is to their bottom line. But here we are.So… the sander works fine but their backend support is really dumb.

The sander is fairly heavy which helps to keep it on the surface. It is understandably slightly unbalanced left to right and you have to be careful to keep it upright or you can gouge your surface. Plenty of power and handles well.

Use this for a week now and i can truly say this is the best 120v sander i have ever used. Durable, runs strong at highest speed setting. Great torch as you have to push down hard to get the motor to slow a bit. easy loading for quick switch out belts. Awesome dust collection system! Very impressed. may buy for my boys for next Christmas.

I have used this sander for 2 days now to sand a deck and it is a solid performer. The sander built sturdy and is heavier than I expected. I have been running it on the highest speed with 40 grit to remove old paint off a deck. There is enough power but I would prefer if it had a little more. The sander is easy to handle with good grips. The design allows you to sand flush into a corner which is a really nice feature. The dust collection is good and requires little extra cleanup. Changing sanding belts is simple and the belt tracking is working well and easy to adjust. One thing to note is that when I took it out of the box it appeared to have been used. There were some scratches in the paint and other marks indicating that a sanding belt had been run for short while. There were also signs of abrasion in the dust collection tube. So I called Amazon to report my find. They apologized and sent out a new sander the next day. To my surprise, the replacement sander had all the same scratches and wear marks. So, I can only assume that Metabo must do some quality check by running the sander for a short time with a belt. If this is so, I would suggest that they add some documentation to the customer indicating why the sander appears to have been used. I kept the original sander and returned the replacement.

I have used this sander for several projects, and am very pleased with it's performance. This unit is lighter and less cumbersome to use than some other senders I have owned. Sanding belts are very easy to reload. This sander is constructed of all metal and seems very sturdy. I would definetly recommend this sander.

This is a great value compared with other sanders spec for spec. I was going to buy another brand and settled on this sander because of the name reputation and overall feature benefit versus price. Hitachi has always been a good brand and the marriage of Metabo makes it that much better. This sander also has a great warranty.Out of the box, this proved to be a great tool. I won a lot of tools, so I am always trying to find a good balance of performance, quality and price. I enjoy the comfortable grip and ergonomics. I used it for nearly two hours right out of the box and found it very comfortable. I hooked up to my dust collector without any modification and away we went. The belt tracking was simple to adjust and keep in line. I like the variable speed adjustment and ease of access, the metal body is sturdy, but lightweight.A great value, solid warranty and great brand. Why spend more than $200 when you can have this one for much less.

If you want a quality, high-performance belt sander, buy the Hitachi. I was contemplating buying another cheap, no-name belt sander and I'm glad I didn't. I've used many cheap belt sanders before and am familiar with the performance. So I was curious to see how good the Hitachi would be and if spending more was worth it.Right out of the box, this machine says quality. It is well-built. A robust design with a metal frame and a comfortable, rubberized grip. It is built to last.Controls are great. It is loud, like most power tools, but not as loud or as harsh of a noise as cheap belt sanders. Dust collection is adequate with a huge dust bag; it captures most of the fine dust and has plenty of capacity for long periods of sanding without stopping. Belt tracking with a good 3M belt is excellent and it operates for the life of the belt without any adjustment. Variable-speed is a nice feature, but I mostly just run it at max speed since my goal with a belt sander is removing material quickly. However, this machine is so powerful and fast that slowing it down can be really useful at times for a final pass before switching to a finish sander.Sanding speed is the biggest operational benefit of this machine over cheap sanders. The belt speed is at least 50% faster than any of the cheap alternatives. Sand with the Hitachi at max speed for 30 minutes, then go to the slowest speed, which is equivalent to the max speed of a cheap sander. You will quickly notice how the Hitachi works about twice as fast as the cheap plastic versions of a a belt sander, saving you time.I see many reviews are of people complaining about belt sanders and how they can gouge the wood, are noisy, creates dust, etc. Those are all true, but those are characteristic of all belt sanders. Belt sanders are meant to be aggressive to remove lots of material quickly. With the correct technique and practice, you can achieve very smooth and flat results, but a belt sander is still not a finish sander. The design of the belt sander leaves scratch marks in the direction of the belt travel, and this can't be avoided, only minimized by using fine-grit belts. To finish-sand wood that you intend to stain and polyurethane, I strongly recommend using a 1/4 sheet palm sander after the belt sander to remove the scratch marks.

You may get another $5 off this unit. The detailed description lists it as cordless (which it is not as it is a corded 120 volt unit). So I called Amazon to explain the problem as did not want to order a cordless unit and then asked the rep if they were going to offer me anything for my aggravation on having to follow up on their mistake. He offered me a $5 credit - maybe I should have asked for $10. So far I have used this unit once to sand some oak and it seems to work well. The dust collection works and I have not noticed any gouging in the wood as some people have said. I suspect that they may have been trying to sand pine or another soft wood with a course belt. This would not be the sanders fault as much as the users as with a soft wood and an aggressive tool like a belt sander with coarse belt, its hard not to gouge. Anyway, i used to have an old craftsman that finally bit the dust about 5 years ago (to bad as it was an OK sander). Looking at the new craftsman., I did not like them and so bought a cheap master craft from C. Tire. It was not very durable as It bit the dust after 5 years but I did not use it much. Tracking also left a lot to be desired in the C. Tire unit. - Not Impressed with the C. Tire sander - it was though an el cheapo. I have other Hitachi tools that I have had for years and they continue to work well and so I expect this Hitachi sander to continue to do so as well. The 5 year warranty on it is also nice. it does have more plastic on it than a Makita or some of the others but seems to be very well built where it counts and seems to work well. time will tell!
