Absolute non-destructive measurement
The MESTEK 700B is ideally suited for the rapid non-destructive determination of moisture distributions in near-surface areas up to 20-40 cm, where no electrodes or probes have to be inserted into the material to be measured.

Automatic shutdown
The hygrometer automatically turns off within 30 minutes after it is turned on. To cancel this function, press and hold the MEAS button and then press the power on button when the machine is off.
Simple calibration
Press the MEAS button to complete the calibration within three seconds and enter the measurement state. Press the MEAS button to switch to the data storage and save the current measured value.
Portable and light
The appearance is just the size of the palm, which can be used very well. The weight is about 200g, which is also very portable. It is very suitable to carry it in your pocket or to collect it in your tool bag!
Attention
- When measuring, try placing your hands on the lower part of the device to avoid the effects of hand moisture on the measurement results.
- With a continuous measurement, the position in which the hygrometer is held cannot be changed, which affects the measurement results.
- Please do not compare the measurement results with those of other similar products. The calculation method of each non-contact moisture meter is different.

I have never used one of these before, but the instructions were super easy for me (a novice) to follow. I checked a few windows and drywall where I knew I had a leak that had been fixed, and the moisture detector worked exactly like I imagined. It sensed moisture where I knew there was some and none where there was none.

I like this moisture meter! I like that you don't need pins to take the reading - preventing damage to the surface. Additionally, the ability to read multiple substrates, not just wood, is ideal, and makes this very multi-purpose and worth having in your inventory. The display is great, and easy to read and interpret. I like that it shows the variances instantly as you move from one part of the surface to the next. Each time you turn it on you need to give it a few seconds to calibrate, but I like that it does that, this way you aren't falsely calibrated to some standard that is not representative of your environmental conditions. It comes with a draw-string pouch for carrying & protecting that is made from soft thick cloth. It includes a detailed instruction manual which reads like stereo instructions, but the device itself is fairly easy to use. Also included - the 3 AAA batteries to power the unit, and a small screwdriver to open the battery cover. The meter itself has a rubberized over-mold to help protect the instrument. The buttons are large and easy to press. You can change the default thresholds on this, but I think the default settings are well appointed. This meter can help you make real-world quantifiable readings to help you and your team determine the best practices to follow giving the conditions over time, rather than having rely on perception alone. It helps to have the numbers to be able to document, log, or just keep track of the data for comparison and timing considerations. I'm pretty happy with this meter, and I'm convinced that it's a relatively high quality device!

I'm a retired electronics technician, but also a woodworker. I have a pin-less moisture meter I've been using for over 30 years that is calibrated for use on wood. When I saw this I had hopes that it would enhance my existing 30 year old meter. However, this one was not designed for that. It is best used on concrete, or walls you may suspect moisture. I've used it to detect where the cat peed on the carpet the day before. It seemed to have dried, but using this meter, I found that it was still more moist than the surrounding carpet. It is simple to use. It gives humidity relative to the air. It does not give you an exact percentage of humidity as a pin-less wood moisture meter would. It is still useful in the woodshop to check if your wood is losing or gaining moisture over time. It will still give a ballpark idea of how "wet" your wood still is. But not a substitute for a moisture meter designed for wood. There is a slight learning curve... you can't take it out of the package and just start pushing buttons, as you need to calibrate it every time you fire it up. This only takes a few seconds, but it's not intuitive that you need to do that. It allows you to set limits for when it beeps at you if to much moisture, as well as a few other things.It appears well made and exudes quality. For example, if you look closely at the pic I posted showing the open battery cover, you will see that the screw that holds the cover on is not a cheap sheet metal screw into plastic as many things are, especially toys, but it uses a machine screw, screwed into a built in brass nut. I would expect nothing less for something that costs this much, but the entire unit looks and feels quality.

This meter works well and seems to be accurate enough to detect surface moisture upon contact with the ball probe. Human skin gave me 100, a fruit tree leaf gave me 74, same tree's trunk gave me 68, dry 2x4 lumber gave me 24, and bare leather gave me 6.5, but with hand behind it, it got 74.6. The scale a MIN/MAX, not percentage value based on humidity or relative humidity as reference. This does need a calibration to zero out each time it's turned on by pressing the "MEAS" button. I also found going from indoor to outdoor or anywhere you notice the scale being off from "0.0", a zeroing or simply turning the unit off and on again and pressing "MEAS" again works well.This would be a great tool detecting moisture leaks behind walls, building materials, soil, or anywhere a deeper (20-40mm depth indicated in manual) scan for any excess moisture reading is needed, since it's easy to clean the stainless ball probe without fear of damaging the tool or the object getting measured for relative moisture. The ball must come in full contact of the object to get a reading. The manual is easy to understand and very clear. 3AAA batteries, small screwdriver, and cloth carry bag is included with the moisture meter. Very easy to read color display with audible warnings make it very easy to use. This moisture detection meter has a hard vinyl or TPU overmolded case that should offer light bump protection and easy cleaning for light dust. This unit does not appear to be water resistant though and the rear battery door is not gasket sealed, but held in with a small screw (small philips driver included).Easy to use and understand, but I would still rely on a pin style moisture meter if you're doing fine wood working to a more accurate internal moisture reading.

I bought this product because I wondered about the moisture in n y walls or perhaps a leak. Works as expected and easy to use and directions are simple above all it comes in a handy pouch. Product has no issues and delivered as promised.
