This is a nice starter kit for someone who just wants to give it a try and put out a few taps. Initial setup was pretty easy, drill your tap hole, install tap, tubing and bag onto the tree with nails and you are collecting sap.The diameter of the taps which are also known as spiles are a little small but still worked OK. I am thinking I used a 7/32' drill bit while my other taps use a 5/16" drill bit. These bags use 2 nails to mount unless you want to add some sort of cord hanger making a total of 3 penetrations into the tree for each tap. I personally try not to put any more holes into the tree than necessary, a single hole for everything is best. The tubing was a good length in most cases and worked well.Inserting the tubing into the bag and especially removing it from the bag could be quite difficult.I like the 7L capacity collection bags and they have held up OK so far and work fine for collecting the sap but are hard to empty and this is my biggest complaint. Unless I am missing something important there is no way to just open them up to pour out the contents. I personally found that if i pulled the collection line out and put a short piece of tubing in long enough to get past the built in tubing sleeve (valve), I could turn them upside down and squeeze or just let them drain into my collection barrels. The only other alternative was to attempt to remove the tubing from your tap without breaking it, then using that line to empty the bag.I like the basic concept of the bags because the snug fit with the tubing keeps your sap clean. I would suggest that they add a screw on cap, zipper top or some other way to easily empty the bag. This is especially important early on when you get ice in the bag, which currently is impossible to remove.

No Drill bit to fit their taps. No instructions. Very difficult to insert tubes into pouches (I used butter as a lubricant). No mention of the reuse of pouches but presumably not. Sooo, how can one obtain additional pouches, only?

Everything seems well made and secure. Can’t wait till the weather breaks and we can get some sap flowing. Nothing better than real syrups!

These came with no instructions so you are left on your own to figure out exactly how to do it. I am a beginner at maple tapping but if you have previous experience you would probably be just fine. I did eventually figure it out and once I knew what I was doing it was pretty easy to get these setup. Some parts were still a bit tricky but overall it wasn't too bad. The materials seem decent and I'm hoping they work as they should! Mine are all ready to go once the weather cooperates!
