This thing re-threaded my barrel, no problem and all by hand. It got the job done so five stars for me.

Metric Taps and Dies in the fine series are hard to find and LH versions even more difficult. This tap and die looks to be good quality and will be useful to chase and clean up the LH threads on my Italian Racing Kart engine crankshafts.

Straight forward use, I bought it to fix some threads that were stripped. I ended up having to replace the part the damage was too severe, but the one I got to replace it was not threaded. So it came in handy twice.

Worked very well to fix the threads on an airsoft gun always make sure to use oil or lube turn slowly most people who review this negatively probably have no idea how to use a die or tap. Worked well for my two guns Would recommend if you know what you’re doing if not just take your crap to an airsoft store

What can I say, it just works. I needed to fix some not exactly well done threading on muzzle brake that was made in Russia (russian stuff is good but quality varies) and this tap worked perfectly. Will keep it handy for future gunsmithing works as I have lots of M14x1LH threaded barrels. Quality seems to bi fine, comes in a small plastic case, which is nice too. The only problem is that it's shipped directly from China and you'll get it in 10 days minimum.

JUST BE SURE YOU BACK THE CENTER PIECE OUT AS YOU THREAD THE BARREL AS IT WILL LOCK UP AND BREAK THE DIE. AFTER YOU GET IT STARTED, BACK THE CENTER PIECE OUT AS FAR AS YOU CAN SO AS THIS WONT HAPPEN BUT NOT SO FAR AS IT LOOSES ITS STRENGTH TO KEEP THE DIE STRAIGHT, iVE DONE 11 BARRELS THIS WEEK NO PROBLEMS, USE A BIT OF LITE OIL AS YOU GO. iTS THE ANSWER TO ANY BARREL ADAPTOR,SILENCER OR SPIGOT YOU MAY WANT TO INSTALL ON MORE THAN JUST SKS, AK47, 91/30 JUST MEASURE BARREL DIAMETER TO GET IT REAL CLOSE BEFORE STARTING, NOT PERFECT BUT REAL CLOSE,,,, AND GO FOR ITGOOD LUCK AND YOUR GOING TO LOVE IT, JUST GO SLOW AND DONT TRY TO GET THE DIE MORE THAN ONE TURN AT A TIME , THEN BACK IT OFF ONE TURN, THEN GO ANOTHER FULL TURN , ON AND ON TILL YOU GET IT AS FAR AS YOU NEED THE THREADS. IT NEEDS AT LEAST 3/8"TO1/2" THREADS AND USE RED LOCKTITE ALSO THREAD TILL THE ITEM YOUR PUTTING ONTHE BARREL IS IN ITS NEEDED POSITION TRY TO SEE WHERE IT REGESTERS, THEN TAKE OFF APPLY RED LOCTITE LAST. LET SET 1 HOUR.

I've been a machinist for over 25 years. This die is as good as most common dies I've used. I would recommend removing the detent and spring from the front sight. Since this die is used for threading rifle barrels, I'd like to see only one starter side, the other side with only a small starter could be used to thread closer to the front sight. But a crush washer will work well to fill the small gap, if it bothers you. Also slightly boring out the mussel beaks I.D. a few thousands deeper will get it closer to the sight and detent. The die seemed to be a little to the tight side or my barrel a little larger then most. An adjustable die would be ideal. I needed to remove a little metal, very little from the barrel to thread it. I used a fine file and emery cloth, using a caliper to be sure it stayed round. I would highly recommend using a die bore guide, it can be found at Brownells.
